In short
Gyodaepae is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Seocho, Seoul, serving a 500g set of three thinly sliced pork cuts. We grilled it with scallion salad and kimchi, then added cheonggukjang. Verdict: a satisfying choice for trying several quick-cooking cuts.

At Gyodaepae, we could compare chilled thin-sliced pork belly and pork neck with frozen thin-sliced pork belly all in one meal.

Why I chose three kinds of thin-sliced pork near Gyodae Station
I visited Gyodaepae with a friend for dinner. It is about 300m from Exit 9 of Gyodae Station, so it was easy to reach on foot, and the blue sign made it easy to spot. While looking for pork belly around Gyodae Station, I liked the look of a set that let us try several kinds of thin-sliced pork together.

There were plenty of round and square tables inside. Each table had ventilation equipment, and the overall atmosphere was that of a comfortable Korean BBQ restaurant. Even though we visited late in the evening, the owner was kind and attentive with anything we needed, so we could start our meal in a good mood.

Gyodaepae Set contents and price
The menu and ingredient origins were clearly displayed on the wall. You can order chilled thin-sliced pork belly, chilled thin-sliced pork neck, and thin-sliced pork belly individually, or choose the Gyodaepae Set if you want to try several kinds at once.
The Gyodaepae Set we ordered was a 500g set of chilled thin-sliced pork belly, chilled thin-sliced pork neck, and frozen thin-sliced pork belly in the familiar frozen-pork style. All three were sliced thin, but the fun part was being able to compare chilled meat and frozen thin-sliced pork at the same table.

The Gyodaepae Set normally costs ₩48,000, but with the set discount it was ₩43,000. The meats arrived separated by type on a wooden board and plate, and 500g looked generous for two people. It suited us well because we wanted to try several cuts rather than just one.

The combinations we made with grilled thin-sliced pork
After greasing the grill with pork fat, we put on the thin slices first.

Because the slices cooked quickly, we could eat without waiting long. Once the meat began to release its fat, we put kimchi and pa-chae (seasoned shredded scallions) around the edge of the grill too.

As the kimchi absorbed the pork fat and turned golden, its savory flavor really came alive, so I kept reaching for it.

The frozen thin-sliced pork belly was thin and tender, with edges that cooked slightly crisp, giving it that familiar appeal of frozen Korean pork belly. A light dip in the sauce added a salty kick, while grilled kimchi cut through the richness.

The chilled thin-sliced pork belly and pork neck were also thinly cut, so they cooked in no time. They had the characteristic juiciness of chilled meat, and we enjoyed alternating between the different flavors and textures of belly and neck. All three types were easy to eat in thin slices, and a generous pile of pa-chae on top of the meat made a great one-bite combination.

Side dishes and the self-service bar
The basic side dishes included kimchi, bean sprouts, pa-chae, seasoned shredded radish, garlic, and ssamjang (savory soybean dipping paste). It was a well-rounded spread of sides that went nicely with the meat.

For extra side dishes, you can use the self-service bar.

The tangy, spicy seasoned pa-chae was good on its own, but lightly grilling it softened it and made it an even better match for the meat. There were plenty of ways to change things up—dipping the pork in sauce or wrapping it with grilled kimchi—so it never became tiresome through the end. I tend to pay attention to side-dish combinations when choosing a Korean BBQ restaurant near Gyodae Station, and here the pa-chae and grilled kimchi brought out the nutty richness of the meat well.

Cheonggukjang that was great between bites of meat
We also had cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) while eating the meat. Served bubbling in a ttukbaegi (earthenware pot), it was generously filled with tofu, zucchini, and other ingredients. The broth was earthy and rich without being overly salty or harsh, making it great to spoon up between bites of meat.

Eating the large chunks of tofu with softly cooked zucchini was filling, and it paired well with steamed rice. It made the meal feel much more complete than eating meat alone. There is also a coupon for free cheonggukjang when you write a review after making a Naver reservation, so it is worth checking before you visit.

What we ordered and how we finished the meal
Our order that day was the Gyodaepae Set at ₩43,000, cheonggukjang at ₩5,000, steamed rice at ₩2,000, and cola at ₩2,000, for a total of ₩52,000.
It was fun choosing between chilled thin-sliced pork belly, chilled thin-sliced pork neck, and frozen thin-sliced pork belly all in one meal. Since all three were thin cuts, they grilled quickly, and they paired nicely with grilled kimchi and pa-chae. The cheonggukjang was full of ingredients too, so we finished feeling full. If you are looking for a pork belly menu near Gyodae Station where you can try several kinds of thin-sliced pork, or a comfortable Korean BBQ restaurant for dinner, Gyodaepae is worth keeping in mind. The owner was kind as well, which made for a pleasant finish to the meal.
