Seocho gimbap restaurant for family chicken takeout: Halls

In short

Halls Gimbap Main Branch is a gimbap restaurant in Seocho, Seoul, serving gimbap and dakgangjeong. I took home two 11,000-won chicken sets to share with the kids, and the spicy fish-cake roll and clean-tasting chicken were standouts. A filling, family-friendly takeout meal.

Halls Gimbap takeout near Gyodae Station

Seriously—gimbap (seaweed rice rolls) is one of our kids’ regular favorite foods 🍙 I mean, it is one of the easiest go-to foods when you have kids at home and just do not feel like cooking, right..? 😎 Whenever we hear a gimbap place is good, we pretty much go find it and eat there. You cannot feed them only the same gimbap all the time, or they get tired of it, so we rotate around.

Today, I was near Gyodae and found a delicious gimbap place, so I brought some home.

From Exit 1 of Gyodae Station, walk straight toward Gangnam Station and you will see a CU next to a KT shop. Go into the alley between CU and the pharmacy, then turn left at Pelicana, and Halls Gimbap will appear.

A horse face, right there! 🐴 It is unmistakably the Halls Gimbap sign, haha. This used to be 0to Gimbap, but it seems they started separately; there is a notice saying the menu and owner are unchanged.

Inside Halls Gimbap and the menu

Inside, it is spacious, with open window seats too, so when the weather is nice like it has been lately, it would be lovely to eat with the windows open and a cool breeze coming in. Even though it was late lunchtime, customers kept trickling in. It looked like there is a lot of waiting at lunch, and probably tons of delivery orders too. A real Gyodae Station favorite.

They sell cup ramen separately, so that would be nice alongside your meal, and they also provide katsuobushi (bonito-flake) broth. The menu was so extensive that I had to choose my gimbap very carefully.

The menu selection is enormous. Since this was formerly 0to Gimbap, there are the original dishes plus items the owner added, so there is truly a huge variety.

You order at the kiosk. Can you see the phrase, “with care, with care”? 👍

Cute posters I photographed while waiting for my order. Powerful messages—dakgangjeong! Tteokbokki!

Notice about using olive oil and unrefined raw sugar

What I especially liked was that they use olive oil and unrefined raw sugar! I only use olive oil at home too 😎 It would be even better if they used allulose instead of unrefined raw sugar, but I think it is impressive enough that a restaurant does not use white sugar. 👍

Dakgangjeong sets shared with the kids

So, because these were for the kids—and so they would not fight—I ordered two dakgangjeong sets. If I do not divide things up, they fight, you know.. Is everyone else like that too..? 🤣

I ordered the Halls Gimbap because it is their signature roll, and it was so good, packed full of spicy seasoned fish cake and vegetables!

As for Spam gimbap, what is there even to say for the kids, haha. They absolutely love Spam, but my son took out every single piece of cucumber before eating it..

Dakgangjeong I remembered more than the gimbap

The dakgangjeong was especially far more delicious than at most dakgangjeong places. They say they do not use corn syrup and cook it daily with fresh chicken thigh meat; it somehow tasted clean and not artificially sweet, so I enjoyed it so much. I could understand why people say they buy just the dakgangjeong on its own.

The gimbap is generously filled, wholesome, and clearly made with care, and paired with dakgangjeong delicious enough to call this a dakgangjeong spot, it makes a great set meal. If you are looking for tasty gimbap and dakgangjeong near Gyodae Station, I recommend Halls Gimbap! Next time I need to try other gimbap too. And the dakgangjeong in a large size!!
