Pork belly restaurant in Indong, Gumi with group annex: Kkotdwaeji

In short

Kkotdwaeji Restaurant Gumi Main Branch is a samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly) restaurant in an alley off Indong Rodeo Street in Gumi, Gyeongbuk. On a weekend evening, the writer ate in the annex reserved for large parties and group dinners, had 3 servings of pork belly grilled at the table by staff with side dishes from the self-bar, and finished with 1 serving of daechang jeongol (beef intestine hot pot). Between the premium pork and the generous hot pot, Kkotdwaeji Restaurant is an easy recommendation for a group dinner in Indong.

Hope you're having a good weekend! Today, for anyone hunting for a samgyeopsal (pork belly barbecue) spot in Indong, Gumi, I'm bringing you a review of a place I genuinely love and visit often out of my own pocket — my number one pork belly spot in Indong, Kkotdwaeji Restaurant!

Where is Kkotdwaeji Restaurant Gumi Main Branch, and where do you park?

Kkotdwaeji Restaurant Gumi Main Branch sits deep inside Indong Rodeo Street, in an alley near Megabox Gumi Gangdong. If you're driving, park on the street near the storefront or use the Indong public parking lot.

Main building or annex: which one is for group dinners?

Living up to its reputation as the number one samgyeopsal spot in Indong, the main building itself is spacious and clean, but the annex right next door — reserved for group gatherings and large dinners — is even more private and roomy!

This time we used the annex. Even on a late weekend evening visit, the main building was completely full — and the annex was packed with guests too, so it was hard to get interior shots 😝 True to its status as a top Gumi pork belly spot, it's full at peak hours! Book through Naver or by phone before you go.

Kkotdwaeji Restaurant menu and what we ordered

The menu ranges from à la carte meat cuts to sets, offal, and hot pots — plenty of variety, which makes it a great group dinner spot. Since we were definitely having my favorite dish, daechang jeongol (grilled intestine hot pot), to finish, we started with three servings of pork belly 🫶🏻

They also bring out a nice range of basic seasonings to pick from according to your taste, to upgrade the flavor of the meat.

Kimchi, bracken fern, chives, and bean sprouts, all set to be grilled golden in the pork fat — absolutely killer setup lol

What's on the self-serve side dish bar at Kkotdwaeji Restaurant

In the meantime I went to check out the self-bar, and browsing it here is genuinely fun. From mara-style seasoned lettuce stem to olive kimchi to scallion sauce, it was packed full of solid, well-chosen side dishes!

Cherry tomatoes and even yogurt! When you're tipsy, how about a shot of soju with your tomato?

On top of that I scooped up some appetite-boosting savory barley doenjang (soybean paste) and refreshing-looking cucumber kimchi to try.

Three servings of pork belly, grilled at the table by staff

And finally, the three servings of pork belly arrived! For reference, Kkotdwaeji Restaurant says it selects only the top 20% premium pigs raised to spec. The deep red color and thickness are on another level 🐷

The real perk of Kkotdwaeji Restaurant is that a staff member grills it for you professionally, golden and delicious, from start to finish~~

The meat itself is so good it would probably taste great even grilled plainly, but with an expert's touch locking in the juices for that crispy-outside, tender-inside finish, the savory flavor multiplies, right?

Down where the savory pork fat pools at the bottom of the grill, they pile on kimchi, bracken fern, bean sprouts, and seasoned chives to cook them even more savory~

Pork belly tastes better with a golden crust on the outside, right? 🤤 They cook it through to the inside, so you can grill it a little more to your taste, and while the meat is turning golden brown—

First bite with salt, then wrapped in lettuce

The first bite has to be with salt, right? 🧂 Just a light dip in salt, and the moment you bite in, savory juices burst out — the quality of Kkotdwaeji Restaurant's pork is insane...

The absolute highlight of pork belly is the wrap! Fresh lettuce, two pieces of golden pork belly, kimchi crisped in pork fat, bracken fern, and savory barley doenjang all piled on for one bite~~

Eating pork belly nonstop can get a little greasy or repetitive, right? But here, the variety of side dishes and sauces means you never get tired of it 🤤 Pair the tangy grilled kimchi with the zesty scallion sauce or the spicy sauce.. it's so good lol

Add in the bracken fern and seasoned chives soaked in savory pork fat and the umami is out of control.

The meat quality alone is so good, and combined with such a varied lineup of side dishes, the three servings of pork belly disappeared in no time... it's basically magic.

Finishing with one serving of daechang jeongol

The reason we held back from ordering more meat: Kkotdwaeji Restaurant's daechang jeongol (grilled intestine hot pot) ㅠㅠ You absolutely must try it!!

After the meat, we just ordered one serving of daechang jeongol as our meal — and honestly, I asked the staff member, 'Is this really just one serving?' lol 😱

It comes out piled high in the pot.. just looking at it makes your mouth water, it's that good-looking!

A pot piled high with one hearty serving of daechang jeongol

For reference, if you visit before 5pm and order the gourmet set, this delicious daechang jeongol comes free!!

At first the broth is a bit on the salty side, but the longer it boils, the more savory fat from the intestines melts into it, and the broth gets deeper, richer, and smoother.

Is Kkotdwaeji Restaurant a good group dinner spot in Indong?
