Sunday morning dakgangjeong takeout in Jeonju Hanok Village: Mannyeon
In short
Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store is a dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken bites) takeout shop on Taejo-ro in Jeonju Hanok Village. On a Sunday morning the writer parked at Hanok Village Public Parking Lot 1 and picked up a mild-and-soy half-and-half in the large size for 30,000 won at Mannyeon Dakgangjeong, across from Ojjang, eating some freshly tossed on the street and reheating the rest at home in an air fryer. The sauce is made with fresh apple and pineapple, so it is not just sweet, and the coating stayed crisp after cooling, which makes Mannyeon Dakgangjeong a solid takeout choice.

Why Sunday morning is the quiet time in Jeonju Hanok Village
Why is Jeonju Hanok Village so pretty? Compared to Seoul's hanok villages, which are tightly packed together, this one is bigger in scale and has plenty to look at.
Right now there are lots of trumpet vines and crepe myrtles blooming around Jeonju, and they suit the quiet scenery of the hanok village perfectly. With good weather on top of that, every photo I took felt like a win.

Since it was the weekend, I was worried about parking, so on Saturday I stuck to Jeonju Station and around the hotel, and around 10am on Sunday I parked at Hanok Village Public Parking Lot 1. At that hour the lot had space and the streets weren't crowded, so I leisurely had a coffee and wandered around the hanok village.

Where is Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store, and when is it open?
You can't skip the food when visiting Jeonju's hanok village, but Ojjang already had a line out the door, so I gave up on that one haha. Instead I stopped by Mannyeon Dakgangjeong, located across from Jungang Elementary School and Ojjang. The building looks like a grand old noble's house, but it's a takeout-only shop.

Menu at Mannyeon Dakgangjeong: chicken and shrimp gangjeong, and is medium enough for two?
Dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken bites in sauce) and shrimp gangjeong are the main menu! You can pick from four flavors and different sizes, and a medium is plenty if there are two of you. Side dishes include sotteok-sotteok, sweet potato cheese sticks, and jjondeugi fritters.

Like most of the food spots in this area, Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store is takeout only — no tables to sit and eat. In the evenings you can see people sitting along Taejo-ro with draft beer or Jeonju moju (a spiced rice wine) eating theirs, or walking around the hanok village while snacking.

For a takeout shop, the kitchen inside was surprisingly large, and you can see right into it from outside — the oil looked clean and the kitchen looked hygienic overall. They say the dakgangjeong sauce uses apple and pineapple as fresh fruit for natural sweetness. I liked that Mannyeon's sauce wasn't sickeningly sweet.

Dakgangjeong half-and-half, large, 30,000 won: mild and soy
The dakgangjeong half-and-half (large) costs ₩30,000. Seriously huge portion.
There are four flavors of dakgangjeong: mild, spicy, soy, and plain fried! For the half-and-half I picked mild and soy.

Freshly fried and tossed dakgangjeong! I grabbed a piece the second it came out — crispy, sweet, delicious. The portion was so generous I couldn't finish it on the street, so I carried the rest home for a snack and late-night bite haha.
Since they say they make and sell everything same-day, even after I brought it home in a box there was no gamey chicken smell, and the crispy texture of the dakgangjeong held up pretty well.

Mild dakgangjeong that everyone, young or old, will like, and sweet-salty soy dakgangjeong! The fried chicken itself is tasty enough that the plain fried version looks like it'd go great with beer too.

Fresh apple and pineapple sauce that doesn't taste heavy
They say they use freshly prepped chicken every day and a sauce made from blended fresh fruit like apple and pineapple, so it tastes good and also feels like a healthier ingredient, which makes it taste even better somehow.
It's sweet but there's a subtle fresh fruit tang underneath, so the sauce doesn't feel heavy — it's clean. The sauce clings to the batter just right, not too much and not too little, nice and sticky!

Is dakgangjeong still good cold? Reheating it in the air fryer
It was delicious eaten warm right there in the hanok village, but it has a different charm once it's cooled down a bit after being packed to go. If you want it warm again, running it through the air fryer briefly works great too. Chewy and crispy, good for picking at one piece at a time as a snack.

You can join the review event not just through Baemin, Yogiyo, Coupang, or Naver, but also in-store, so make sure to take advantage of it :) One of Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store's giveaways is a chicken toy or a sotteok-sotteok skewer!

The hanok village is big enough that you'd almost want to rent an electric cart, with plenty to see along the way — Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store's chicken is a great pick-me-up in between, and since it's still tasty cold, I'd recommend getting it to go too!
