Sinnonhyeon dakgalbi restaurant with fish roe fried rice: Dakgalbijeon

In short

Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch is a budget-friendly dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken) restaurant on the 2nd floor of Gangnam Diobil in Seocho, Seoul, 305m from Exit 9 of Sinnonhyeon Station. Over dinner with friends, the writer ordered gamssachidak — dakgalbi wrapped in potato pancake, where the mild pancake tames the spicy sauce — then finished by frying flying fish roe rice in the leftover sauce. Dakgalbijeon is an easy recommendation when you want a filling Gangnam meal without a big bill.

I started from Gangnam Station~ Come out Exit 10, go straight, turn right at Musinsa Store and keep going straight, then turn right at Seocho Sekkosi and walk 20m — the sign is right there on the 2nd floor of Gangnam Diobil!

This is a spot in the middle of Seoul where you can park free for 1 hour! Park in the underground lot at Gangnam Diobil, 54 Seocho-daero 73-gil, and it's free for an hour, then ₩1,000 per 10 minutes after that.

For lunch it seems perfect as a filling Gangnam Station lunch spot, and in the evening it's a great Gangnam Station dinner place with good atmosphere. I was surprised there was such a good-value restaurant in Gangnam.

What's on the menu at Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch

The best menu items at Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch seem to be the dakgalbi wrapped in potato pancake — gamssadak and gamssachidak. There's also jjolim dakgalbi and cheese dakgalbi~

There's a generous amount of meat and no default noodle add-in, so you order extras separately, and once you're done, finish with fried rice! Besides dakgalbi there are pancake/side dishes too, and for drinks there's nurungji makgeolli (scorched rice wine), soju, beer, and more 👍

Gamssachidak: how does dakgalbi wrapped in potato pancake taste?

The dish my friends and I ordered was gamssachidak! True to its name, it's dakgalbi wrapped in potato pancake. At first I thought, wrap dakgalbi in potato pancake? But the combo is insane 🤩

Ordered gamssachidak spread on the table

Putting the sauce-coated dakgalbi on the golden, crispy potato pancake, rolling it up, and taking a bite was so good~ The nutty, mild flavor of the potato pancake came together with the spicy-sweet dakgalbi sauce, and the combination worked way better than I expected><

Wrapping dakgalbi in potato pancake to eat

When you eat dakgalbi alone, the spiciness of the sauce hits first, but eating it with the potato pancake, the pancake's mild flavor tones down the heat a bit~ It was my first time trying the potato pancake + dakgalbi combo and it worked surprisingly well haha ❤️ And after finishing, fried rice is a must!!!

Finishing the meal with flying fish roe fried rice

So to finish, we thoroughly stir-fried the flying fish roe fried rice at Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch! They add rice to the leftover dakgalbi sauce and fry it up, and it's really a must~

The dakgalbi sauce was soaked evenly into the rice, and with the popping flying fish roe added on top, it was spicy, salty, and full of savory depth — really delicious!
