Dakgalbi restaurant open at 4:30pm in Seocho: Dakgalbijeon Gangnam
In short
Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch is a dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken) restaurant on the 2nd floor of Gangnam Diobil, in front of Exit 7 of Sinnonhyeon Station in Seocho, Seoul, where the chicken is wrapped in perilla leaf potato pancakes. On a weekday visit at 4:30pm, the gamssadak set for 3 was ordered, and because Dakgalbijeon opens 11am to 10pm with no break time, a meal at that awkward hour was no problem. With 1 hour of free parking as well, Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch is good value when a dakgalbi craving hits in Gangnam.

While hunting for good-value places near Sinnonhyeon, I found a real gem! Turns out there's a spot where you wrap dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken) in potato pancakes — surprising, right?! The name is literally Dakgalbijeon (닭갈비전, "dakgalbi pancake") haha. Curious, I went on a weekday afternoon.

Where is Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch, and its hours and parking
Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch is on the 2nd floor of Gangnam Diobil, a great-value dakgalbi spot near Sinnonhyeon. It's super close to Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 7, so accessibility is excellent :) If I'd come in the evening I probably would've been curious about the icy nurungji (scorched rice) makgeolli! Definitely trying that next time!!
Dakgalbijeon Gangnam offers 1 hour of free parking, so I'd also recommend it to anyone looking for a Gangnam Station restaurant with parking.

That spatula is mine now!!!
A Gangnam restaurant still serving at 4:30pm
I visited around 4:30pm, and even though it has a bar-like vibe, it's a Gangnam Station restaurant with no break-time, open from 11am. It's usually hard to find a place open during those awkward in-between hours, but Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch is open the whole time, so it's the kind of place that comes to mind right away!!
What is on the menu at Dakgalbijeon

Braised dakgalbi and cheese dakgalbi seem to be the signature, most-ordered dishes! But in the evening the pancakes are the main event haha.

The set menu looked good, so I ordered the gamssadak set for 3!! If you love cheese, I'd also recommend gamssachidak, which adds cheese. If you're coming for a 2nd or 3rd round of drinks in the evening, the jeon (pancake) set with fish cake soup, steamed egg, or makguksu (buckwheat noodles) also looks great!
Basic side dishes and the self-bar at Dakgalbijeon

Since I came for a proper meal, I ordered the gamssadak. The basic side dishes were simple — pickled radish and radish wraps. Extra sides are self-service!!!

How the special sauce dakgalbi tastes without gochujang
Ta-da! The dakgalbi comes made entirely from fresh, hand-trimmed chicken thigh, prepped daily!!! Apparently they use a special sauce instead of a typical one — no gochujang at all?! Maybe that's why it doesn't feel heavy, and instead tastes clean with deep flavor.

Spicy and sweet!!! +_+ It comes fully cooked, so all you have to do is eat — so convenient haha. Wrapped with radish wrap, you get a refreshing tang too > <
And the thing I was most looking forward to here was — eating dakgalbi together with the potato pancake haha. The portion of dakgalbi is pretty generous, and the potato pancake is no joke in size either — total value for money at Dakgalbijeon..haha. Definitely a great-value spot near Sinnonhyeon, right?

Wrapping dakgalbi in a perilla leaf potato pancake
The potato pancake was perfectly golden-fried. With perilla leaves on top, you get a fragrant aroma too!!
Cheers all around before digging in!!!! START!!!! *.*
If you visit Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch, you have to try the perilla leaf potato pancake — chewy, sweet, and full of that perilla fragrance, it was really delicious haha.

Delicious eaten on its own, and just as delicious wrapped around the dakgalbi!!!

The dakgalbi itself has such a soft, juicy texture that it's great on its own, but wrapped with the potato pancake, it's even better.

Is Dakgalbijeon Gangnam good for group dinners or a date?
I wrapped it in radish, wrapped it in the perilla potato pancake, and also ate it plain — enjoyed Dakgalbijeon in every way *.* If you're craving dakgalbi in Gangnam, I'd recommend swinging by this great-value spot near Sinnonhyeon haha. The restaurant is quite spacious, so it's plenty big enough for group gatherings or company dinners!! Also GOOD for a Gangnam Station date!!
