Sinnonhyeon dakgalbi restaurant, 49,000 won for two: Dakgalbijeon
In short
Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch is a hot-plate dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken) restaurant on the 2nd floor of Gangnam Diovill, between Sinnonhyeon and Gangnam stations in Seocho, Seoul. Two friends ordered the Gamssadak set for two (36,000 won) with udon noodles, sweet potato, flying fish roe fried rice and cola, paying 49,000 won in total, and scratched an in-store lottery card that won a 5th-prize yogurt. Wrapping the chicken in a perilla-potato pancake makes Dakgalbijeon a worthwhile pick for anyone who eats by value near Sinnonhyeon.

The Gamssadak set lets you eat dakgalbi and perilla-potato pancake together. We added udon and sweet potato noodles too, and left completely full.

Where is Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch, and is there parking?
Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch is on the 2nd floor of Gangnam Diovill, between Sinnonhyeon Station and Gangnam Station. My friend and I decided to grab dinner near Gangnam Station one day, searched for good Sinnonhyeon restaurants, and picked this spot for its combo of value-priced dakgalbi and pancake. Walk up to the 2nd floor and the restaurant is right there.

We visited on a weekend evening and the place was really packed. Tables of two and larger group tables alike were mostly full.

It felt like a comfortable spot for a relaxed meal, so it seemed popular for friend gatherings and work dinners too.

Gamssadak set for two plus add-ons: what does dinner for two cost?
The Gamssadak set for two we ordered at Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch was ₩36,000, coming with dakgalbi and a large perilla-potato pancake. We added an order each of udon noodles and sweet potato, and each got a cola.
Gamssadak set for two ₩36,000 Udon noodles ₩3,000 Sweet potato ₩3,000 Flying fish roe fried rice ₩3,000 2 colas ₩4,000 Total ₩49,000
Between the dakgalbi, the potato pancake, the fried rice and the drinks, we ate until we were completely full. With so many dishes to enjoy together, this seems like a great pick for anyone looking for value among Sinnonhyeon restaurants.

The basic side dishes were simple — pickled radish and pickled vegetables. Having a bite of these between mouthfuls of the strongly seasoned dakgalbi kept things refreshing.

The scratch card event at Dakgalbijeon: 5th prize is a yogurt
Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch was also running an event where you get to scratch an instant lottery card. Prizes ranged from a perilla-potato pancake for 1st place down to flying fish roe steamed egg, rice cake noodles, and yogurt, depending on rank.

My friend and I scratched ours side by side and both landed on 5th place. We each got a yogurt as our prize and drank it lightly before the meal. A small thing, but it made the wait fun and was a nice thing to do together.

Hot-plate dakgalbi with udon noodles and sweet potato added
The dakgalbi came loaded with plenty of chicken, cabbage, perilla leaves, and the noodles we added.

The udon noodles were plump, and the spicy-sweet sauce soaked into them nicely. Eating the noodles together with the dakgalbi gave a great texture, and I kept reaching for more even after eating a lot.

Adding the sweet potato was a good call too. It picked up the dakgalbi sauce while keeping its own sweetness, which made for a fun bite in between.

The chicken was tender, not dry at all, and the sauce wasn't overly spicy or salty, so it was the kind of flavor you keep craving. My friend and I kept saying how good it was the whole time and ate fast.

How to wrap dakgalbi in the perilla-potato pancake
As eye-catching as the dakgalbi in the Gamssadak set was the perilla-potato pancake. It was big enough to fill the whole plate, and having a perilla leaf laid on top of each piece made it look special too.
The edges were cooked thin and crispy while the inside kept that chewy potato texture. The perilla leaf gave off a subtle aroma, so it was plenty tasty even just dipped in soy sauce on its own. The signature move here is apparently piling dakgalbi onto the perilla-potato pancake and wrapping it up. The crispy, mild pancake and the richly seasoned dakgalbi worked together better than I expected. With the perilla aroma added on top, it tasted different from the usual dakgalbi.

We ate the pancake plain first, then piled dakgalbi on it, then dipped it in soy sauce again — one dish enjoyed three different ways. If you like both dakgalbi and pancake, I'd recommend the Gamssadak set.

Finishing with flying fish roe fried rice, 3,000 won
After we'd worked through the dakgalbi and udon noodles, we added the flying fish roe fried rice. In the pan with a bit of leftover dakgalbi, the staff stir-fried rice, seaweed flakes and flying fish roe together evenly. A generous portion, way more than what you'd call a single serving!

The dakgalbi sauce had soaked into every grain of rice, and the flying fish roe added a nice pop with each bite. Whenever a bit of leftover sweet potato showed up, it brought a touch of sweetness too. Even though we were already pretty full, the fried rice was so good we kept eating. A pan-grilled dakgalbi meal really isn't complete without the fried rice finish.

Is Dakgalbijeon near Sinnonhyeon good value for two?
I was curious why the place was so busy, and after eating there myself, the overall lineup of dakgalbi, perilla-potato pancake and flying fish roe fried rice made it clear. Wrapping dakgalbi in the potato pancake was a nice touch, and everything tasted good, which put me in a good mood.

For ₩49,000 between two people, we got to enjoy noodles, fried rice, and drinks all in one filling meal — a good option if you care about value among Sinnonhyeon restaurants. My friend and I agreed we'd come back for Gamssadak the next time we're craving dakgalbi in Gangnam!
