Bundang noodle restaurant with bibim makguksu: Samiri Makguksu

In short

Samiri Makguksu Migeum Branch is a makguksu (buckwheat noodle) restaurant 123m from Exit 3 of Migeum Station in Bundang-gu, Seongnam, and it makes its noodles in house. A couple stopped in after work for bibim makguksu and a potato pancake: the sauce was mild enough that the noodle flavor still came through, and house-made kimchi and pickled onions came on the side. Samiri Makguksu Migeum Branch is an easy, low-key weeknight dinner, and the tteok mandu guk (rice cake and dumpling soup) is next on the list.

Walking to Samiri Makguksu Migeum Branch from Migeum Station Exit 3

Samiri Makguksu Migeum Branch is only about 123m from Migeum Station Exit 3, so it was easy to find right from the station. After work, my husband suggested we grab dinner before heading home, and this is where we ended up.

I usually love makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles), so naturally we headed to Samiri Makguksu Migeum Branch that day.

The "自家製麵" sign: noodles made in house

Walking in, the place felt cozier than I expected. Looking back at my photos, there was a sign on the wall reading '自家製麵 자·가·제·면' — homemade noodles.

As someone who loves makguksu, phrases like that always catch my eye. We wanted a simple dinner that night, but I noticed the menu had tteok mandu guk (rice cake and dumpling soup) alongside the noodle dishes, so I already picked out what to order on my next visit.

How spicy is the bibim makguksu sauce?

We ordered two dishes that day: bibim makguksu and potato pancake. My husband loves spicy food, so he picked the bibim makguksu.

Bibim makguksu topped with vegetables, seaweed flakes, and egg

The noodles came topped with vegetables, seaweed flakes, sauce, and an egg in the middle — it looked appetizing just to see.

The seasoning wasn't overly strong or sharp — just right for eating comfortably with the noodles. For someone who loves makguksu like me, if the sauce is too intense it can drown out the noodle flavor, but this time it wasn't overwhelming at all.

House-made kimchi and pickled onions on the side

The kimchi and pickled onions that came with the meal at Samiri Makguksu Migeum Branch caught my eye too. They're made in-house, and I tried them alongside the noodles — clean, simple side dishes like these are the kind you keep reaching for. The pickled onions especially paired well with the potato pancake.

There's no self-serve bar, but the staff kindly told us, 'Just let us know if you need more kimchi or pickled onions.'

They also mentioned that adding a bit of broth to the bibim makguksu makes it even tastier, so I poured some in and mixed it up.

Was the potato pancake crispy?

And then the potato pancake we ordered alongside it. You can tell from the photo how crispy it turned out, right? It really was crispy on the outside, and it went great with the noodles.

Crispy, golden-fried potato pancake

Potato pancake tastes best hot, so we cut into it as soon as it arrived — nutty and crispy, it was pretty good.

Next visit: tteok mandu guk (rice cake and dumpling soup)

This visit was all about the makguksu, but next time I'd love to try the tteok mandu guk. As evenings get a little cooler these days, sometimes you crave a warm soup instead.

Dinner spread with makguksu and potato pancake together

We just stopped by for a quick dinner with my husband after work, but as someone who loves makguksu, it was a comfortable, easy meal.
