Parking tips for a Hongdae pizza restaurant: Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza

In short

Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza is a wood-fired pizza restaurant in an alley off Dokmak-ro 7-gil near Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul. Because Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza has no parking of its own, the writer left the car at the nearby Dangin public street parking lot and ordered a Quattro Stagioni pizza and seafood tomato pasta from the table kiosk. The best detail was the candle lit under the pizza tray, which kept every slice warm down to the last piece.

Finding a真正 wood-fired pizza place in Hongdae isn't easy, but this time I found somewhere really solid. It's the Hapjeong-area pizza spot 'Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza' (홍대화덕피자)! I really love pizza, so hearing it specializes in wood-fired pizza got me excited to visit — and I left with expectations fully met. Here's my honest review.

Where to park for Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza: the Dangin public street lot

🚗 Location and parking tip (Dangin public street parking lot)

Given how Hongdae is, almost no restaurants have their own parking, and Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza is no exception — no on-site parking here either.

But if you're driving, the 'Dangin public street parking lot' is very convenient. It's close to the restaurant, and since it's a public lot, the parking fee was less of a burden than I expected. If you're coming by car, I'd recommend parking there comfortably and walking over!

What is the restaurant like inside? Groups and first dates

📸 A cozy interior full of character

The warm, charming atmosphere hit me the moment I walked in.

What really caught my eye were the walls covered edge to edge with photos of past customers. Seeing all those photos made me think, 'Ah, this is really a proven, well-loved Hongdae spot that so many people visit.' Maybe because of the cozy, friendly vibe, the place was buzzing with all kinds of customers — from groups out for a get-together to couples shyly on what looked like blind dates. I could totally see this being a great date or group hangout spot.

Kiosk ordering, pickle requests and the candle under the pizza

🍕 A clever kiosk order & keeping everything warm with a candle

We ordered comfortably through the kiosk at the table.

One small tip I picked up while ordering: pickles are only given to tables that specifically ask for them! If you want pickles, don't be caught off guard — just make sure to tap 'Pickle request' on the kiosk.

Before our pizza arrived, staff lit a small solid-fuel candle on the table. Since it sits under the pizza tray, the dough and cheese stayed warm and never hardened until the meal was over. We got to eat even the very last slice as if it had just come out of the oven — a thoughtful touch from the owner.

How is the seafood tomato pasta at Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza?

🍝 Seafood tomato pasta review

The seafood tomato pasta we ordered alongside the pizza came out first.

It was a tomato pasta loaded with fresh seafood — the kind of crowd-pleasing, deeply flavored dish nearly anyone would like.

The tangy-sweet yet rich tomato sauce paired beautifully with the seafood's umami — dipping the pizza crust edge into this pasta sauce turned out to be a fantastic combo too.

Quattro Stagioni pizza: four flavors on one pie

One of the biggest perks of Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza is that you can order half-and-half or Quattro (four flavors)! It's the best option when you can't decide between too many delicious menu items — so we ordered the Quattro Stagioni pizza to enjoy all four flavors at once.

Quattro Stagioni pizza fresh out of the wood-fired oven

As soon as we ordered, they baked the dough in a real wood-fired oven in the kitchen and brought it right out — the freshly baked look and the just-out-of-the-oven smell was a combination that simply couldn't taste bad.

The Quattro Stagioni was made up of these four signature pizzas:

Quattro Stagioni pizza slices divided into four flavors

  • Quattro Formaggi: A pizza where the rich flavor of cheese is a work of art. Dip it in the honey served alongside for an explosion of sweetness and nuttiness.
  • Croccante: An appealing mix of texture and flavor that keeps your mouth entertained.
  • Margherita: True to the basics with tomato, basil, and mozzarella — a classic, authentic wood-fired pizza flavor!
  • Diavola: A touch of spice cuts through what could otherwise feel greasy — a really charming pizza.

The balance among the four flavors was really good, and thanks to the chewy yet light dough that's characteristic of wood-firing, we never got tired of it and finished it all happily. Dipping the cheese pizza slices in honey was especially satisfying.

Final verdict on Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza

🌟 These days it's surprisingly hard to find a proper wood-fired pizza place in the Hapjeong/Hongdae area, so discovering this gem felt like a lifesaver — I left having had a really enjoyable meal.

  • The taste of freshly baked, chewy wood-fired pizza
  • The Quattro menu that lets you enjoy four flavors at once
  • The candle setup that keeps everything warm throughout the meal
  • A cozy, atmospheric interior (highly recommended for blind dates & group gatherings)

If you're looking for good wood-fired pizza and pasta in Hongdae, I highly recommend visiting 'Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza' at least once!
