Bread and cake packed to go from Tomoru Bakery in Songdo

One of my favorite bakeries near Songdo Central Park is Tomoru Bakery. This time it was my mother-in-law's birthday, so I stopped by again after a while to pick up a cake 😊 The moment I opened the door, I was hit with the smell of freshly baked bread haha.

Such a wide variety of breads

You could tell at a glance there were tons of different breads. The way they were neatly lined up by type on the wooden shelves felt so tidy and pleasant just to look at 😊

I've heard that in the evening most things are sold out, but since I went in the morning this time, the shelves were fully stocked, which made browsing all the more fun.

What about seating?

There's about one seat inside for eating, plus seating on the terrace, so it's a place better suited for takeout.

I kept reaching for the donuts

Whenever I'm at a bakery, out of all the breads, it's the donuts that always call to me. Maybe it's a nostalgia thing haha.

After browsing for a while, I ended up picking a fresh donut (₩2,500), a pastry kkwabaegi (₩2,500), and a cream mammoth bread (₩6,500).

The fresh donut, covered in a soft layer of sugar, was crisp outside and impossibly soft inside haha.

The pastry kkwabaegi had visible flaky layers, and just hearing that crisp crunch on the first bite made me happy 🤭

And the cream mammoth bread was my husband's pick — the layers were really generous. Under a crunchy crumble topping was a thick, fluffy cream filling, plus strawberry jam and sweet red bean paste! Every bite brought a different flavor.

There's rice bread made without wheat flour too

I also picked up a rice pound cake (₩4,200) made with powdered rice. It was topped generously with almonds, which made it look nice and hearty. For anyone who gets bloated from wheat, breads made with rice like this could be worth trying. The shop also has a soboru rice roll, so rice-bread lovers would have fun picking between options.

I also brought home a fig sand cake

For my mother-in-law's birthday cake, I chose the mini fig sand cake (₩36,000).

With figs piled generously on top of the whipped cream, I couldn't believe a cake could look this pretty. My mother-in-law also complimented how gorgeous the cake was haha. The sides were decorated to show the cross-section of the figs too, so it worked perfectly as a gift. Eating it together at the birthday party, the fig's distinctive sweet-tart flavor blended beautifully with the soft whipped cream — not too sweet, just the right amount 👍

  • Anyone looking for a bakery near Songdo Central Park
  • Anyone trying to figure out a cake gift
  • Anyone who feels bloated after eating wheat

With such a wide variety of both breads and cakes, it's a place where there's always something new to discover on every visit. Next time I'm definitely trying the soboru rice roll!
