Hi everyone, I'd only ever been to the Gwangalli branch of Daidokoro, but it turns out there's also one inside Lotte Department Store Gwangbok Branch. So this time I went for dinner at Daidokoro Gwangbok Branch. Daidokoro is the kind of place where you feel like you've stepped into Japan — the whole space is packed with cute figures and little props, so it's fun just to look around like you're browsing a Japanese novelty shop. I love Daidokoro's curry and pudding and had been a few times already, so I was curious what the vibe at the Gwangbok branch would be like.

Daidokoro Gwangbok Branch is located on the 10th floor of the main building of the department store. Since it's a restaurant inside a department store, it's perfect for combining shopping or browsing with your meal. After eating that day, I went to check out a pop-up event happening in the store and grabbed some tasty-looking food too.
What is the atmosphere like inside Daidokoro?
Right next to the restaurant there's a display of cute Pokémon and Shin-chan figures. They're adorable and perfect for photos. (Kids will absolutely love this spot.)
Daidokoro is designed to feel like Dotonbori transplanted straight into the space — cute figures and props everywhere, plus warm lighting that really makes you feel like you're in Japan. It seems like a great spot for a date, hanging out with friends, or a family meal with kids. There's a corner on the right with Kuromi and Eevee dolls too, which I think kids would love. (With a kids' menu on offer, it seemed like a lot of families were visiting.)
What comes with the two-person Set A for 42,000 won?
That day we ordered Daidokoro Gwangbok Branch's Two-person Set A for ₩42,000 (mango ade +₩1,500) plus a ₩4,500 pudding. I felt like something refreshing rather than cola, so I went with the ade. I love mango, so I picked mango ade — stir it well with the straw and you get sweet mango bits mixed in, which is delicious. Daidokoro's curry is aged for 100 hours, which is said to give it a nutty yet mellow flavor. Tasting it, you could really tell — deep, rich flavor befitting a curry specialist. They're also apparently known for their tonkatsu and karaage, so those would be great to pair with it too. (Ranking my personal favorites: number one is definitely the curry, number two the pudding.)
Chicken nanban set with 100-hour aged curry
The chicken nanban set pairs a sweet-and-tangy special soy sauce with a savory, smooth tartar sauce — a combo that worked better than I expected. The sweet-salty flavor was elevated even further by the tartar sauce. It can get a little rich after a while, but the pickled hot pepper side dish that came with it cut through the richness nicely, so I could eat it happily to the last bite.
Kkanpunggi set: sweet-and-sour fried chicken
This is chicken thigh meat tossed in a sweet-and-sour kkanpunggi (sweet and sour chicken) sauce. Using thigh meat made it tender and juicy rather than dry, which was great. The sweet-salty sauce paired well with rice too. The set also comes with curry, so you get to try both kkanpunggi and curry at once — I liked that. And once you finish the meal, a mini pudding comes out for dessert, so the whole set felt like a lot for the price.
Menbosha, the fried shrimp toast
Crispy fried menbosha (fried shrimp toast) comes with crunchy cabbage on the side. You can drizzle the cabbage with whatever sauces are set out at each table. The menbosha was delicious dipped in the sweet-and-tangy chili sauce that came with it.
Milk pudding for dessert
Daidokoro's milk pudding is ₩4,500. It's sweet and soft, so kids would love it too. The pudding can also be packed to go, so if you're a pudding lover, I'd definitely recommend trying it when you visit Daidokoro :)
