In short

Yakiniku Gaek Nampo-dong Main Branch is a Japanese-style yakiniku restaurant in Nampo-dong, Busan, a 6-minute walk from Jagalchi Station Exit 7. Two people shared the yakiniku set for two at 65,000 won with doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and a bowl of rice, grilling in order from galbisal (boneless short rib) to kkotsal (marbled chuck flap), and the plain salt-and-pepper dip was the best pairing of the night. Between the hanwoo beef and the warm lighting, Yakiniku Gaek is an easy recommendation for an evening date in Nampo-dong.

Nampo-dong has tons of good restaurants and bars, but that day I was really craving meat, so I went to Yakiniku Gaek's Nampo-dong location. Since it's a Japanese-style place where you grill the meat yourself, it seemed perfect for a date or a casual meat night with a friend :)

What comes with the 65,000 won yakiniku set for two

The two of us ordered the yakiniku set for two at ₩65,000, doenjang jjigae at ₩6,000, and rice at ₩1,000. Since we'd made a reservation in advance, the table was already set up when we arrived.

Because we'd reserved ahead, the table setting was ready like this!

I visited with one other person, and we ordered the yakiniku set for two at ₩65,000 / doenjang jjigae at ₩6,000 / rice at ₩1,000 haha. Since it was our first time really trying yakiniku together, we went with the set so we could taste several cuts at once!

You can alternate between cuts as you grill, so it never gets boring, and it's great for slowly chatting and eating together :)

From galbisal to kkotsal: the grilling order and how it tasted

For Yakiniku Gaek's set for two, they explained to start with galbisal and work right to left, ending with kkotsal, so we just started grilling without overthinking it. They told us they use top-grade marbled hanwoo (Korean beef), and honestly, the color of the meat was insane.

This is the set for two I ordered — the visuals are genuinely crazy lol. They told us it's top-grade marbled hanwoo, and I guess that's why the color of the meat looked so amazing haha. They explained to start with galbisal and finish with kkotsal on the right, so there was no need to think about it — I just started grilling right away haha.

You just place each piece on the grill one at a time, and the smell of the meat was somehow different. My boyfriend kept gasping the whole time we were grilling, lol.

Watching each piece cook and picking it up right when it's perfectly done, then — yum 🤤 It's so tender, on a completely different level, I found myself wondering when else in life I'd get to eat meat like this lol.

Why salt and pepper was the best pairing

I'm not exactly a great cook, and even though I just grilled it roughly, it was genuinely delicious. They suggested dipping it in ground salt and pepper mixed on the side, and I tried it — since the condiment isn't overpowering, it actually lets the meat's flavor shine even more, and with meat this high quality, tasting the meat itself really matters, you know? It hit that feeling perfectly. Try this combination, seriously haha.

Since it's a set for two with several cuts served in small portions, I think it'd be great for people who have trouble deciding what to order when visiting as a pair. As we grilled each cut one by one in order, we kept saying 'this one's the best' over and over again lol.

The doenjang jjigae here isn't Japanese miso soup

Yakiniku Gaek's doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) at ₩6,000 isn't Japanese-style miso soup — it's the classic doenjang jjigae you get at Korean BBQ restaurants. As we ate, rice inevitably started calling our names, so we ordered rice to go with it.

As a Korean, I just couldn't resist — mixed the rice right in and ate it up 😂 Meat plus jjigae is a combo that never fails.
