Suyeong pizza restaurant with lime water and pickle self-bar: Extra

In short

Extra Mile is a casual Western restaurant in Suyeong, Busan, near Gwangalli Beach, from the team behind Free Will Pizza, Pickles, and Upper East Bakery in Jeonpo-dong. A weekday lunch visit past the rush meant no wait for the Classic Combo — half-and-half potato and birria pizza plus white ragu pasta — with a lime water and house pickle self-bar as the standout touch. A solid pizza-and-pasta pick for a date that pairs well with a walk along Gwangalli Beach.

I was craving pizza and pasta in Gwangalli, and ended up at Extra Mile💖 It's a Western restaurant that's new to Gwangalli, from the team behind Busan's Jeonpo-dong favorites Free Will Pizza, Pickles, and Upper East Bakery.

What struck me most is that it feels more casual and hip than a typical restaurant, so I'd highly recommend it as a Gwangalli date spot 👍🏻 It'd also be great for grabbing a beer with friends over a relaxed meal 😋

📍Location — a white building tucked in an alley

Once you spot the white-painted building down the alley, you've arrived at Extra Mile.

A cute plate-shaped sign (?) greets you.

Restaurant entrance with no weekday lunch wait

I went a little past the weekday lunch rush, so I got in without waiting, but during peak travel season or weekend meal times there could be a wait, so it's worth checking the line via Catch Table in advance 🙌🏻

🏠Interior — a casual-fine atmosphere

Clean, casual restaurant interior

The first thing I noticed walking in was the clean yet casual vibe.

Dining area with a casual-fine concept

It really matched the owner's "casual fine" concept.

Plants placed throughout the space

Plants placed throughout the space kept what could've been a plain interior feeling stylish without overdoing it 🌿🌱

It's less "trying-too-hard fine dining" and more a relaxed Western restaurant with a modern feel! Personally, I felt this was a place to enjoy the atmosphere just as much as the food.

📖Menu — half-and-half with no extra charge

Extra Mile's menu board

The dish I was most looking forward to was Extra Mile's signature potato pizza! The great thing about Extra Mile is you can enjoy a half-and-half pizza with no extra charge, picking two flavors to suit your taste ~! 🫶🏻🫶🏻 I was also curious about their signature white ragu pasta.

So here's what I ordered:

  • ✔️ Classic Combo (1 pizza + 1 pasta)
  • ▪️ Pizza — half-and-half (potato & birria)
  • ▪️ Pasta — white ragu
  • ✔️ Sprite Zero

Lime water and house pickle self-bar

Self-bar with water and pickles

There's a self-bar with water and pickles. The lime water smelled great 〰️🍋‍🟩 Even the water felt thoughtfully done,,,😌 As for the house pickles, once the food arrives you can help yourself to more if you run low. This place is a pickle hotspot. Crunchy and tangy, they whet your appetite so much you end up eating endlessly ❤️‍🔥

Today's cute touch✨ Every table has a paper tablecloth you can color in. Coloring while waiting for the food to arrive made time fly by haha

Half-and-half pizza (potato • birria) 🍕

Half-and-half potato and birria pizza

The dish I was most excited for that day! The half-and-half potato & birria pizza arrived. Getting two flavors on one pie is great when you're dining with someone whose tastes differ from yours, and just as good for someone like me who wants to try several things at once.

Cross-section of dough with potato topping and white sauce

The moment we took a bite, my husband and I locked eyes. This is the real deal…! ✨

The combination of thinly sliced potato and julienned potato had a novel, pleasant texture. What I loved most was the white sauce spread over the dough.

Birria pizza topped with rich meat flavor

So what does birria pizza taste like?

And then there was the somewhat unfamiliar birria pizza! Let me explain a bit 🤔 Birria originally comes from Mexico — a stew-like dish where meat is slow-cooked for a long time with spices. Birria made with beef is especially well known, and it's typically eaten with the broth once the meat is tender.

These days, you'll see birria used in things like tacos and pizza too — think of birria pizza as "the rich, fragrant meaty flavor of Mexican birria brought onto a pizza," and it makes sense.

With that deep meaty richness, I'd recommend the birria pizza if you like bold, exotic flavors 👍🏻 I was glad I ordered it half-and-half — great combo choice, pat on the back for myself 🙌🏻

White ragu pasta 🍽️

A plate of white ragu pasta

When you hear "ragu," you usually think of a rich tomato-based sauce, but this white ragu is beef and pork simmered down into a deep white ragu sauce, finished with the flavor of Reggiano cheese, for a soft, savory taste. Totally different from a typical cream sauce pasta!

I ordered it because pizza alone felt like it wasn't enough, and it made clear why this is Extra Mile's signature dish.

💬Final thoughts — how about a Gwangalli date course?

Extra Mile is easy to reach from the Gwangalli Beach area, so it worked well to walk along the beach before or after the meal. It's a convenient spot for a course of eating, then hitting a café or a beach walk in Gwangalli — great for travelers visiting the area too.

If you're looking for a pizza and pasta spot in Gwangalli that's a bit different from the usual restaurants but still delicious and hip, I recommend Extra Mile! I'd suggest ordering both pizza and pasta so you can share and try a variety of flavors 💖
