Suyeong restaurant with 48-hour dough pizza and tomato pasta: Extra

In short

Extra Mile is a Western food and pizza restaurant in Suyeong, Busan, set in a converted white two-story house five minutes from Gwangan Station. The half-and-half hot honey pepperoni and potato pizza came on a 48-hour cold-fermented dough, thin and chewy enough to enjoy on its own, and the tomato pasta was mild enough to share with a child. A solid Busan lunch pick for pizza lovers who want no fuss, no sharp flavors.

It looks like a converted house — a white two-story building with a really exotic feel.

Interior and atmosphere

Inside Extra Mile

Here's a look inside Extra Mile, this Gwangalli Western food restaurant.

Open, casual interior design
Hall seating with an American dining vibe

The open, airy interior felt casual yet tidy — American dining with a spoonful of Japanese sensibility mixed in.

Open kitchen visible from the seating area
Seating near the open kitchen

It's an open kitchen, so the energy of the kitchen carries right through the room — it made the whole place feel even livelier.

Tables arranged with distinct styles
Mix of two-top and larger group tables

The tables are arranged in different styles with their own personality. There's a good range of choices, from two-tops to bigger tables where a whole family can sit comfortably. It felt like a comfortable, pleasant place to visit for a Gwangalli date, a family gathering, or a casual Gwangalli lunch.

There are also seats good for one or two people. Personally, that's the spot where I'd want to sit alone and enjoy a leisurely weekend lunch.

The menu and the wait

Extra Mile's menu board

Here's the menu at Extra Mile.

Menu listed in Korean and English
Menu page listing pizza and pasta

Since so many foreign visitors come to this Gwangalli Western food spot, the menu is written in both Korean and English. Sure enough, there were foreign customers there every time I visited.

While you wait, there are coloring papers and coloring tools set out so neither adults nor kids get bored. Everyone's drawing turned out different, which made it even more fun.

You can order pizza half-and-half

One thing I really love about Extra Mile is that you can order pizza half-and-half. That's a big plus for someone like me who wants to try several menu items at once, or when people want different pizzas but a whole pie each feels like too much.

Hot honey pepperoni and potato half-and-half pizza

We went with hot honey pepperoni and potato pizza, half-and-half.

Close-up of the half-and-half pizza

Overall the pizza wasn't too salty or heavy-handed on the flavor, which I really liked.

How the hot honey pepperoni and potato pizza tasted

Despite the word 'hot' in the name, the hot honey pepperoni wasn't very spicy — the slightly spicy pepperoni balanced nicely with the sweet honey sauce. Mascarpone and ricotta cheese on top pushed the savory richness even further.

As for the potato pizza at this Gwangalli pizza spot, words almost aren't necessary — it's genuinely savory and delicious. It's amazing that potatoes can be turned into such a tasty pizza.

Cross-section of the thin, chewy pizza dough

The 48-hour cold-fermented dough

The dough, like a wood-fired pizza crust, was a bit thin, chewy, and savory.

Slice of pizza made with 48-hour cold-fermented dough

They say it's made with premium Italian Caputo flour, using a traditional biga pre-fermentation method and slow cold fermentation for 48 hours — maybe that's why the dough was delicious even eaten on its own.

A generous serving of pickles

The pickles were generous in size and refreshingly tasty too.

Extra Mile's tomato pasta

And how was the tomato pasta?

True to its plain, no-frills name, the tomato pasta was maybe the definitive version of tomato pasta — mild and smooth, with nothing sharp about it.

Close-up of the San Marzano tomato sauce pasta

They say the pasta sauce is made from top-grade San Marzano tomato whole cans, simmered slowly and with care.

The tomato sauce had no showy flavors — just a quiet, well-balanced smoothness, and the deep flavor of cheese rounded it out nicely.

A plate of mild, smooth tomato pasta

It's not spicy or salty, so it seemed like it could also work as a baby-friendly dish if you're visiting with an infant.

Wrap-up

Extra Mile, a Gwangalli Western food restaurant where you can order half-and-half and the pizza was especially good thanks to its clean, savory dough — recommended! ♡
