Couple set with four pork cuts and sungnyung in Namcheon, Busan

In short

Geobugi Dongne Namcheon Branch is a Korean barbecue restaurant near Namcheon Station in Suyeong, Busan. The couple set brought four cuts of pork — pork belly, pork neck, jowl meat, and gabrisal — plus assorted mushrooms, followed by a self-serve banchan bar, doenjang-jjigae, pot rice, and a finishing bowl of sungnyung (scorched rice tea). A well-rounded spot for two people to sample a variety of cuts in one sitting.

Exterior

I was looking for somewhere to eat meat in Namdong-dong and ended up at Geobugi Dongne Namcheon Branch. When picking a barbecue place, I usually care a lot about freshness and the side dish lineup — this one nailed both, so here's my review.

Interior atmosphere

Main dining hall with plenty of seating
Seating inside, roomy enough for group dinners

The interior had plenty of seating — enough for a big group dinner. It also looked like a fine spot for a family meal.

Menu and the couple set

The menu had a good range — pork, beef, even shabu-shabu. We went with the couple set this time.

  • Pork belly 200g
  • Pork neck 100g
  • Jowl meat (hangjeongsal) 100g
  • Gabrisal 100g
  • Assorted mushrooms

The self-serve banchan bar

The variety of side dishes on the self-serve bar was way more than I expected.

Choosing side dishes from the self-serve bar to taste

Most barbecue restaurants stick to a handful of basic sides, but this place had so many options it was actually fun picking and choosing to my taste.

It felt like a lot of care went into the side dishes even though it's primarily a barbecue place, which meant plenty of options to pair with the meat.

Meat quality — how did each cut hold up?

The meat was fresh overall. The color and texture looked clean, and it grilled up without any off smell or gaminess.

Each cut had a clearly different texture too — the pork belly was cut to a good thickness with a satisfying chew, while the pork neck was on the softer side.

Gabrisal grilling on the pan

The jowl meat had a nice chewy bite, and the gabrisal was light yet juicy — delicious.

A grilled piece of meat dipped in sauce

The juices held up well through grilling, so even the last piece wasn't dry. Plenty of dipping sauces too, which was a nice touch.

Doenjang-jjigae, pot rice, and sungnyung

Doenjang-jjigae and pot rice ordered as a side meal

For the meal, we added doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew) and rice. Instead of a plain bowl of rice, it came as pot rice, which made it even better.

Freshly made pot rice with a glossy sheen

The freshly made pot rice had a nice sheen to the grains, and paired with the doenjang-jjigae it made a filling meal on its own.

Sungnyung made by adding water to the rice pot

After finishing the rice, we got to enjoy sungnyung (scorched rice tea) too, which made for a clean finish to the meal.

Warm sungnyung enjoyed to finish the meal

After eating our fill of meat, sipping the warm sungnyung felt soothing on the stomach.

Final thoughts

Final scene of the finished couple set meal

With fresh meat, a varied banchan bar, and a satisfying finish with pot rice and sungnyung, this was an all-around well-executed barbecue restaurant. It's a great spot near Namcheon-dong for a couple's date or a small gathering, and I'd like to come back.

What I liked most was being able to try pork belly, pork neck, jowl meat, and gabrisal all in one couple set without much fuss. The portion was just right for two, and with the side dishes and pot rice included, it felt like solid value for the price.

There's paid parking in front of and near the restaurant, so visiting by car wasn't a hassle. That said, seats fill up quickly during dinner hours, so I'd recommend going with some time to spare or checking the wait ahead of time. This is a place I can confidently recommend to anyone looking for barbecue in Namcheon-dong.
