Seomyeon makgeolli bar for honey mango rice wine: Yuumangju

In short

Yuumangju Seomyeon Branch is a Korean bar on the second floor of Sseolpa on Manchwi-gil, the bar alley in Seomyeon, Busanjin, Busan. On a second-round visit, Yuumangju served honey mango craft makgeolli (rice wine) for 15,000 won, poured from a wide bowl into a small stone cup so it drank as cold as sherbet, and a boiled pork and nurungji (scorched rice) chicken soup for 29,900 won that tasted like a hangover cure. Wide spacing between tables makes Yuumangju a bar worth returning to for group meetups and after-work dinners in Seomyeon.

For reference, here's the menu at Yuumangju :) Main menu / side menu / drinks.

There was so much to choose from between the mains, sides, and drinks at Yuumangju Seomyeon Branch, but the staff recommended both a snack and a makgeolli for us, and we left super satisfied!! haha

  • Boiled pork nurungji chicken soup - 29,900 won
  • Honey mango craft makgeolli - 15,000 won
Honey mango craft makgeolli served in a large bowl

Honey mango craft makgeolli, 15,000 won: poured into a small stone cup

First up, the honey mango craft makgeolli (rice wine) we ordered at Yuumangju Seomyeon Branch!!! Haha, it came in a reeeeally huge bowl — the visual alone made me gasp. What made Yuumangju special was that you get a little cup(?) to ladle the makgeolli into and drink from!! lol

Honey mango makgeolli with the small cup for ladling

Just looking at the portion, it was so much it barely seemed to shrink lol. Cool and sweet, kind of like bingsu (shaved ice dessert) but also tasting of alcohol — the honey mango makgeolli was so, so good.

Honey mango makgeolli ladled into the small cup

Pouring it into that little cup especially carried over the makgeolli's chill so well that it felt extra refreshing to drink!!! haha Kind of like a sorbet, kind of like bingsu, kind of like a drink — the honey mango craft makgeolli was so delicious haha. Now I get why they recommended it.

And then the main dish came out fast!!

Boiled pork nurungji (scorched rice) chicken soup, 29,900 won — a snack that came out with the meat piled up in an actual tower!! hahaha

We came for a second round lol, and even though the sight alone was filling, it was so good I just kept eating ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

Broth and ingredients in the chicken soup

The chicken soup had a clean broth that also felt like it would cure a hangover, and paired with the cool, sweet honey mango makgeolli, the combo was so good — it made me really glad we came to Yuumangju for a second round. haha

A piece of boiled pork lifted from the soup

Especially this house chicken soup — it had so many chunks of chicken and pork, and the nurungji soaked up the broth and dissolved, adding a savory depth that made it so, so delicious. hahaha

Yuumangju in Seomyeon, a great snack spot,,, I'm super curious about the other dishes too, so I definitely want to come back!!!! Great visuals, great taste, great vibe, and kind staff too — I'd love to visit again!!!
