Busanjin curry restaurant to avoid weekend lunch waits: Sarugak20

Moru Sikdang's second branch, and my go-to Jeonpo cream curry recommendation — Sarugak20.

Getting there from Jeonpo Station — watch the basement stairs

Walk straight up from Jeonpo Station and you'll find SARUGAKU 20. It's in the basement, and the stairs down are pretty steep, so be careful!

I liked that the menu is posted right at the entrance, so you can look it over before going in. This was a repeat visit for us — we used to go all the time to Moru Sikdang, the original branch that's now closed, so we already knew the taste was solid!!

Weekend early visit — any waiting?

It was the weekend but we went a bit early, and there were plenty of empty tables. Right after we ordered, a lot of customers came in and the place filled up completely — so if you time it wrong, there could well be a wait.

Bar seating for solo diners

There are big tables as well as bar-style seating, so solo diners can sit comfortably without feeling out of place.

The restroom is outside so I didn't check it out, but there's a sink for washing hands tucked into one side inside, which was convenient.

The whole place has a Japanese-leaning interior and décor 🍂 lots of cute little rattan pieces, postcards, and other goods.

Once you sit down, staff bring the menu over to your table. Ordering works by prepaying at the counter! The gap between tables is nice and wide too, so it's comfortable.

It wasn't long before the curry came out 🥘

Shrimp cream curry, ₩9,000

Every time I come here I tend to order either the half-and-half curry or the shrimp cream curry, so this time too I ordered shrimp cream curry without a second thought!

Despite being called a cream curry it's not heavy or cloying at all — it's exactly the Japanese curry flavor you'd expect. You can add toppings too, but even without any extras, the basic version is plenty tasty on its own.

Special curry, ₩12,000

The dish my meat-loving husband picked! Beef curry topped with mushroom, poached egg, sausage, cheese and garlic flakes. You get a variety of flavors in one bowl, so I'd recommend it for people who like more texture to chew on than the cream curry. The garlic flakes are really good too.

Added sweet potato cheese croquette and karaage

Sweet potato cheese croquette (₩3,500), karaage (₩6,000). Since there were add-on options, we each added one — hot and crispy, and my husband especially loved the karaage.

I went with the sweet potato cheese croquette~! I love croquettes so I always add one, and it goes really well with the cream curry too 💛 It was sad that Moru Sikdang, the place I used to go to a lot back in my student days, closed down — but I'm glad Sarugak20 is still here so I can keep eating this curry.

Sarugak20 is great for when you're near Jeonpo Station and want a lunch that's not too heavy but still satisfying. They also do frozen curry shipping and takeout, so it'd be good for anyone living solo nearby to stock up on :)
