In short

Gupo Jjambbong Gupo Main Branch is a Chinese restaurant on Sirang-ro near Gupo Market in Buk-gu, Busan, serving jjambbong (spicy seafood noodle soup) made with a herbal broth. At dinner the writer ordered octopus-abalone jjambbong for 15,000 won, seafood platter jjajang for 9,000 won and a medium tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) for 26,000 won, and ate the tangsuyuk in the order the staff suggested: sauce, then soy sauce, then wasabi. The flavours at Gupo Jjambbong are clean rather than harsh, which makes it an easy choice for a restorative meal or dinner with parents.

Where is Gupo Jjambbong Gupo Main Branch, and is there parking?

Clean building exterior of Gupo Jjambbong Gupo Main Branch

The clean exterior stands out even from a distance. They offer a lunch special course for 15,000 won per person until 2pm — such a good deal in these high-inflation times.

There's a parking lot next to the building, so parking was easy.

Inside Gupo Jjambbong: seating and eating alone

Just like the exterior, the interior is spotless. There are plenty of tables with generous spacing between them, so you can dine comfortably. There's also bar seating, so solo dining is possible here. Sunlight streamed in through the large windows, and it felt so nice, haha.

As dinnertime got into full swing, customers kept streaming in. There were also a lot of delivery and takeout orders — delivery riders were coming by almost every minute. Definitely a certified local favorite in Gupo.

This place has appeared on several TV shows, which made me even more curious about the taste. Also, the open kitchen means you can eat with peace of mind.

Jjambbong made with herbal broth — with such good ingredients packed in, how could it not taste good? Good for your health and good for your taste buds, two birds with one stone.

If you need more side dishes, you can help yourself at the self-serve bar. The side dish lids were closed, which felt hygienic. There was even aesabi (wasabi-mustard) water available. The owner really cares about customers' health.

Disposable aprons and baby chairs are also provided.

  • Octopus-abalone jjambbong ₩15,000
  • Seafood platter jjajang ₩9,000
  • Tangsuyuk (medium) ₩26,000

Here's what we ordered.

Opening the drawer next to the table reveals neatly arranged utensils and napkins. And here's a fun fact — instead of plain water, they serve fragrant sanghwang mushroom tea.

Soon after, everything we ordered arrived. The presentation was flawless, and the staff kindly showed us how to enjoy the tangsuyuk best.

Seafood platter jjajang, ₩9,000 and orderable for one

Most places require at least two people to order platter jjajang, but Gupo Jjambbong Gupo Main Branch allows solo orders. As a platter jjajang lover, I was very satisfied.

It's packed with seafood, and there's an adorable round fried egg on top.

Can you see the glossy sheen? Slurping it down is pure happiness. With plenty of seafood and vegetables, there's fun in picking through it, and the flavor was clean rather than heavy. A menu that never disappoints.

Octopus-abalone jjambbong, ₩15,000 with fresh ginseng on top

Next up is the octopus-abalone jjambbong. Topped with octopus, abalone, shrimp, mussels, and even fresh ginseng, it really feels like a proper health dish. It felt like being treated as an honored guest.

Made with ingredients that are good for your body, this is perfect for a meal with your parents. If you're looking for a health-boosting dish, the octopus-abalone jjambbong here is the answer.

Loaded with seafood, the portion is incredibly generous.

The plump whole octopus gives a chewy texture, and with mussels, shrimp, abalone, and squid, there's fun in picking your favorites. Jjambbong usually brings to mind a spicy, intense flavor, but Gupo Jjambbong's octopus-abalone jjambbong was clean and deep rather than harsh. Totally my type.

Medium tangsuyuk, ₩26,000: the staff's wasabi tip

Medium tangsuyuk topped with lettuce and chives

Last is the tangsuyuk. Crispy tangsuyuk topped with lettuce, chives, onion, and chili peppers — it looks like a flower.

Tangsuyuk served with sauce, soy sauce, and wasabi

Tangsuyuk comes with sauce, soy sauce, and wasabi, and the staff told us it tastes best if you pour the sauce over the tangsuyuk first, dip it in soy sauce, then top it with wasabi.

Pour the sauce generously, then dip it in the soy sauce.

A piece of tangsuyuk topped with wasabi

I ate it with lettuce, chives, and wasabi on top, and wow — the flavor was completely clean. The combination of sweet sauce with crispy, savory tangsuyuk — how could you resist?

Adding wasabi definitely made it cleaner and more refreshing. Whoever came up with this method really knows how to eat, haha. The tangsuyuk had a subtle herbal flavor too. It felt satisfying to eat something both delicious and good for you.
