Nampo-dong Japanese restaurant, fruit cocktail kkanpunggi: Daidokoro

I heard that Daidokoro, famous in Gwangalli, also has a branch in Lotte Department Store Gwangbok! I'd been wanting to visit the Gwangalli location but had no idea this one existed?! Okay, let's go right now!!! Go go go!

Where Daidokoro Gwangbok is and where to park

Daidokoro Lotte Department Store Gwangbok Branch is on the 10th floor food court of the main building! Lotte Department Store Gwangbok is connected to Nampo Station, so it's great for visiting by public transit 🤍 And if you're driving, you can just use the department store parking lot, so it's super convenient to get to Daidokoro 🤍

Inside Daidokoro: a Japanese dining room feel

The restaurant is pure Japanese charm! It's filled with figurines, character drawings and cute little decorations everywhere, so it really feels like you've stepped into a tiny restaurant in Japan...🤍

Being inside a department store makes it so accessible. I'd recommend it for both family meals and date courses 🤍🤍

What two people ordered: the chicken nanban set and the kkanpunggi set

We had already scanned the menu ahead of time..! But we took another quick look and ordered the chicken nanban set and the kkanpunggi set. They're totally different vibes, so sharing them seemed like the perfect combo 🫶🏻

The presentation is so neat and adorable 😘 The main dishes — chicken nanban, kkanpunggi (sweet and sour fried chicken) — plus rice with a cute ketchup drawing, cabbage salad and side dishes all came out arranged neatly on the tray 🤍

And the first thing that caught my eye was, of course, the egg lol they'd drawn a little face on it with ketchup and it was so cute..(said that and then ate it without mercy)

How does the chicken nanban set taste?

The chicken nanban is a huge piece of crispy-outside-juicy-inside chicken absolutely loaded with tartar sauce. At first I worried all that sauce might feel a bit heavy, but nope, not at all!!!!!! It's savory and rich, but not overly sour or intense, so it's totally my style.

The chicken itself is crispy-juicy perfection, and it pairs so well with the tartar sauce. It's funny how a sauce this rich never gets tiring.

Eating it together with the cabbage underneath adds a refreshing crunch, and~?! it just keeps going down cleanly!

The portion of cabbage salad was really generous too..! Bite of chicken, bite of salad, repeat — it just kept going in like a factory line 🤍

The kkanpunggi set has fruit cocktail in the sauce

The kkanpunggi set also came out with a mountain of chicken.... glossy, sweet-and-sour sauce with sesame seeds sprinkled on top, looking way too good ㅠ Underneath the chicken was also plenty of cabbage!

The kkanpunggi had such moist, juicy meat inside. The sweet and tangy sauce soaked in perfectly, and this sauce is truly top-notch....!!!!!! Salty enough to steal your rice bowl!!

When I picked up a piece, even coated in sauce, the crispy fried texture was still there?! The soft chicken meat and the sweet-tangy sauce together felt like heaven 💛 And there was fruit cocktail mixed into the kkanpunggi sauce too! Eating the fruit alongside made it fresh and sweet, balancing out the whole flavor so nicely. Loved it.

Milk pudding to finish the meal

After the meal, we finished things off cleanly with milk pudding 🤍 Aha, this was so good too, honestly nothing here is bad ㅠㅠㅠ The smooth, savory milk flavor melting in your mouth is the best.

Even ordering just one set gets you a full spread — main dish plus rice, soup, and several side dishes — so there's real joy in eating at Daidokoro 🤍 You get to taste a little bit of everything, so you never get bored until the end! After the meal, a soft, sweet milk pudding dessert came out too, giving a proper clean finish 🤍 It really felt like being treated to a carefully prepared meal, so I left in a great mood 🤍
