What is Daidokoro Lotte Department Store Gwangbok Branch?

Daidokoro Lotte Department Store Gwangbok Branch is an authentic Japanese home-style restaurant on the 10th floor of Lotte Department Store Gwangbok Branch, 2 Jungang-daero, Jung-gu, Busan. The tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) and karaage (Japanese fried chicken) here are both well done, and it's open daily from 10:30 to 21:00, with last order at 20:00.

The exterior is so cute! There's also a photo zone right next to the store :)

A very good food hygiene rating and a sign calling them the 'master of mentaiko (salted pollack roe) rice bowls' hanging up there :)

Seating and interior at Daidokoro

Inside Daidokoro Gwangbok, all seating is table seating, made up of six 4-person tables and four 2-person tables. True to a Japanese home-style restaurant, it's full of cute figures — Studio Ghibli characters, Pokémon, Doraemon, Kuromi, and more!

A baby chair is also on hand, so it seems great to visit with a baby ✨️

There's even a kids' curry set for children!

Menu board and what the three-person set includes

Through the review event, milk pudding is provided, and for baby guests, a bib, kids' tableware, and a handheld fan are provided!

There are set menus and full set meals, curry sets, udon sets, single dishes, drinks, vegan set meals, and even a staff-call menu! (Personally I found the vegan set meal so surprising!!)

For the set menu, you can swap the drink, change to soy-sauce egg rice, change the egg from soft-boiled to hard-boiled, or add mini udon! The three of us ordered the three-person set :)

Near the counter there are aprons, baby spoons, scissors, tongs, small plates, and more!

Menbosha (shrimp toast)

The menbosha (shrimp toast) comes in 4 pieces, served with chili sauce!

It's properly packed with shrimp and delicious! It's hot, so let it cool before eating!!

Tonkatsu curry set

This is the tonkatsu curry set :) The little drawing on the egg is so cute!

You get curry and tonkatsu — the curry, aged for 100 hours, is deep, smooth, and really delicious! The tonkatsu is crispy and really tasty too!! The portion is huge! Plus the clear soup is solidly good too!

The basic side dishes are milk pudding / pickled radish & pickled chili / pickled mustard greens / sausage / braised quail eggs / seasoned pickled radish.

Once you finish your rice, you eat the pudding with the small spoon! Some people apparently come to Daidokoro just for the rich, delicious milk pudding!!

Chicken nanban set

This is the chicken nanban set! There's a small side of curry to eat with the rice :)

Each bowl has a different soft-boiled-egg drawing, which is so cute :) And the portion of nanban is quite generous!

The nanbanzu (sweet vinegar sauce) with the tartar sauce works together amazingly, so good ✨️

Kkanpunggi set

This is the kkanpunggi (sweet and spicy fried chicken) set :)

This soft-boiled egg has 'Hi' written on it haha. The kkanpunggi is delicious too :)

+ 2 cans of Zero Coke were also included in the set ✨️ (you can pick your drink)

After checkout, they give you glucose candy :)

Is the Daidokoro three-person set worth it?

A clean, well-rounded Japanese home-style restaurant that gets both the portions and the flavor right — Daidokoro Lotte Department Store Gwangbok Branch feels like a little slice of Dotonbori transplanted here, props and all. Even the dessert pudding is seriously good. Recommended 🌿
