Kalguksu restaurant in Yangsan with a group room: Eonyang Dak Kalguksu

In short

Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch is a chicken kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant with house-made noodles, right in front of Tongdosa Temple in Habuk-myeon, Yangsan, Gyeongnam. After a walk around the temple we ordered two chicken kalguksu, one chicken gomtang and one plate of chewy mandu, and got a whole chicken sitting on the noodles, a perilla-seed chicken bone broth and dumplings with skins as translucent as starch wrappers. With a large dedicated parking lot and a private group room at the back, Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch works well for family and group meals.

This weekend I went on a little healing trip to Tongdosa in Yangsan, famous for its beautiful temple grounds — partly to clear my head, partly for a light walk!

Wandering the quiet scenery and green paths at Tongdosa really melted away my stress~ But you know what they say — even the finest mountain view means nothing on an empty stomach! No healing trip is complete without good food~

Where do you park at Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch?

The first thing I loved was the huge dedicated parking lot behind the building!

Walking inside, the space was just as spacious and clean as the exterior suggested!

The tables were spaced generously so eating never felt cramped, and with so many seats it's a great fit for group outings or family visits.

Geotjeori kimchi made fresh every morning, and what's on the self-serve bar

There's one thing you absolutely can't skip here — the kimchi~ The geotjeori (freshly seasoned cabbage kimchi) is made fresh every morning, and its sharp spiciness is incredibly addictive, almost like silbi-kimchi, and it pairs amazingly with the rich chicken bone broth!

The kimchi cuts through any richness the broth might otherwise leave behind, so you never get tired of eating~

If you can't handle spicy food, no worries! The self-serve bar has milder kimchi, danmuji, and onions so you can help yourself to whatever suits your taste~

Ordering two chicken kalguksu, one chicken gomtang and one chewy mandu

Wanting to try a bit of everything, we ordered two chicken kalguksu, one chicken gomtang, and one chewy mandu~ When the food arrived, the massive bowls and the sheer visual impact made us gasp! Most chicken kalguksu places just shred a few pieces of chicken on top, but here a whole, thoroughly boiled chicken is piled on generously~

What does the chewy mandu (dumplings) taste like?

The mandu we ordered as a side totally lived up to its name! The wrapper is chewy and translucent, almost like potato starch skin~ Thin and springy, it's packed full of meat and vegetable filling, and one bite releases a juicy burst of flavor~

Dipped in the noodle broth or paired with the spicy kimchi, it was a real treat! Definitely order this alongside the noodles~

House-made chicken kalguksu: the broth and the noodles

I started with a big spoonful of the broth~ The rich chicken bone broth, slow-simmered for hours with a gentle addition of perilla powder, was deep, nutty, and packed with umami — seriously amazing!

The seasoning was already spot-on so I didn't need extra salt~ And the real charm of this place's noodles is that they're self-made! The dough is mixed a day ahead and cold-aged, which makes the noodles incredibly chewy and springy~

There was no floury heaviness at all, and the rich broth soaked deeply into the noodles so every last bite was delicious! Wrapping the soft, tender chicken with the chewy noodles together was truly a moving bite.

Chicken gomtang, the pick for rice lovers

For those who prefer rice over noodles, I'd strongly recommend the chicken gomtang~ It's loaded with big, tender pieces of chicken, and the broth is clean yet deeply flavorful!

Rice sits in the hot chicken bone broth! Topped with meat, it felt like all my fatigue melted away, leaving me warm and satisfied inside~ It had that light, restorative feeling of a proper nourishing meal!

If you're visiting Tongdosa for some healing time, or looking for a proper kalguksu or nourishing meal near Yangsan, definitely stop by~ Great taste, generous portions, and friendly service all in one place — I think you'll be really satisfied! Highly recommend~👍
