A family meal at Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch in Yangsan
Today I'm bringing you a review of a family dinner out with my kid — a visit to a Tongdosa-area restaurant, 'Eonyang Dak Kalguksu' Tongdosa Branch! (This is a review that includes a paid-for-my-own-money visit.) It's a great spot near Tongdosa to bring your kids too!!

Today I was really craving spicy, deep broth and chicken dishes. And I found a place with a spacious parking lot and the perfect menu combo, so I had a great time there. 🚗✨
Is parking easy at Eonyang Dak Kalguksu?
1. Wide, comfortable parking space 🚗 Parking is always the worry when going to a good restaurant, right? 😅 This place has a big dedicated lot (gravel yard) right behind the building, so there was no parking stress at all! The space is roomy enough that even new drivers can park comfortably — it won me over before I even walked in.

2. Clean, pleasant interior (baby chairs included) 🪑👶 Walking inside, the clean, modern interior really stood out! The high ceilings make it feel airy and spacious, and everything is nicely kept.
The tables are spaced generously too, so it's great for families or groups. And for families with young kids, baby chairs are ready to go! 👶
Two kinds of kimchi at the self-bar
3. A self-bar to suit your taste (spicy kimchi vs. mild kimchi) 🌶️🥬 We went with the spicy kimchi~ The basic side dishes are pickled radish, onion, ssamjang, and kimchi — and here, the kimchi comes in two kinds... 🔥 (and it's made with domestic napa cabbage) At the self-bar, you'll find 'spicy kimchi' and 'mild kimchi' set out separately!
- Spicy kimchi: sharp and hot, pairs perfectly with the dak kalguksu broth! 🌶️
- Mild kimchi / pickled radish: great for anyone — or any kid — who can't handle spicy food.
It was nice being able to help yourself to as much as you wanted from the self-bar without feeling self-conscious. 😋

4. Today's main dishes! Dak kalguksu & gochu jjimdak (medium spice) 🍜🍗 We ordered the signature dak kalguksu (chicken noodle soup), gochu jjimdak (spicy braised chicken), and a bowl of rice!
Dak kalguksu (₩10,000) 🍜 The broth is simmered from chicken bones with perilla seeds mixed in, so it's really deep and rich! On top of that, a whole half chicken goes in generously, so it's great value too~ (In summer, come here instead of samgyetang and you get two birds with one stone with this kalguksu!!)
They make the noodles in-house, too — since it's handmade noodles, the texture is really chewy, and rich broth + chewy noodles + tender chicken meat = fantastic... 🤤
Gochu jjimdak 🍗 Glossy, glistening gochu jjimdak (₩26,000 for a whole chicken, serves 2-3) — it's more filling than fried chicken!! Can you see the visuals?! The spicy-but-delicious pepper sauce soaks all the way through, and it comes loaded with chewy rice cake sticks too.
How spicy is the medium-heat jjimdak for kids?
My kid said it was so good and devoured both the kalguksu noodles and the jjimdak! (Ate the kalguksu really well) (Ordered the jjimdak at medium spice, and said it was tasty, but) (drank a lot of water because it was spicy). For kids, I'd recommend the soy sauce jjimdak instead!! 👧🍽️ The broth and sauce were so good that we each added an extra bowl of rice — ended up eating two bowls each. 🍚🔥

After a great meal, dessert is a must~ We picked from the variety of ice creams the restaurant has. With melon, strawberry, red bean, chocolate, and more, we each agonized a bit before picking a flavor to match our own tastes.
Verdict: is Eonyang Dak Kalguksu worth a family return visit?
