Wandering through the alleys of Daehak-ro, I stumbled onto a magical little spot. Tucked away from the busy streets, this hanok wine bar called Hyehwarang (혜화랑) feels like a secret hideout in the middle of the city!

What is the entrance and hanok interior at Hyehwarang like?

Hyehwarang sits deep inside the alley off Daehak-ro 14-gil, up a set of stone stairs. 🌿 You're greeted first by a green stone wall and a dreamy hanok interior. The entrance feels like a secret forest path — stone steps, lush vines, and soft lighting all come together to make you feel like you're stepping into a fairy tale garden 😆

A gorgeous wine cellar fills one whole wall of the interior. Rows of different wines lined up on the racks make for fun browsing and add real depth to the space.

From the outside I assumed it'd be a modern space, but step inside and the original hanok roof beams are still fully intact overhead.

Soft pendant lighting and wood-toned interiors give it that cozy, want-to-keep-it-to-myself hideout feeling.

Sitting in a rattan chair set on gravel beside the stone wall, you genuinely feel like you've found your own hidden corner in the middle of the city.

Hyehwarang tips: corkage fee and minimum order

📝 A few tips to know before you visit Hyehwarang. Once seated, press the table bell and a friendly staff member will help you order and recommend a wine. Unfortunately outside food isn't allowed, and each guest is required to order at least one alcoholic drink or beverage — worth keeping in mind before you go. The corkage policy is ₩30,000 per bottle per table, and note that corkage isn't available on Fridays or Saturdays due to weekend operations, so check ahead. ☺
