Why drive to Yuryang-dong, Cheonan for crab soup?

It's crab season. Honestly, my household has been eating crab for about four weeks now, ever since crab season started. I'm a self-proclaimed crustacean lover, and this week my mom made crab soup that I couldn't eat because I had to go down to Cheonan for work — so I went to eat crab soup instead.

But I've never once bought crab soup and been satisfied with it, so I went looking for a restaurant that all the locals in Yuryang-dong swear by.

A huge, standalone building. Huni Gejang is on the first floor, with a different restaurant upstairs — not sure if it's the same owner. Anyway, the place is massive.

The parking lot is also really spacious, so I thought it'd be great for large family groups. It was kept extremely clean too. When the yard parking lot is this bright and tidy at night, what does that mean? It's a good restaurant. (Write that down.)

How many seats does Huni Gejang have?

Huni's is on the first floor and there are a ton of seats. You can drop by solo or in a small group, but the place is genuinely big enough to host a whole family's first-birthday party or 60th/70th birthday celebration. The ceilings are high and the space itself is wide. The seats are spaced way apart too, so it'd be great to bring kids.

Spacious epoxy flooring, and the spaces were cleverly divided too.

I've never seen a soy crab restaurant like this.

Huni Gejang menu and prices

Gejang set meal ₩25,000 (soy crab x1 + seasoned crab x0.5 + shrimp jang x1 + hotpot rice), roe-filled set meal ₩40,000 (roe-filled soy crab x1 + seasoned crab x0.5 + shrimp jang x1 + hotpot rice). The main menu here is soy-marinated crab, but I wanted crab soup. So I ordered the hidden-menu crab soup (₩70,000).

What the 70,000 won hidden-menu crab soup tastes like

Ah, it was so clean I felt good right away. This is genuinely a huge restaurant, but the owner is clearly so meticulous — the tableware and the whole table setup was spotless.

For a great restaurant, the side dishes really matter a lot, and just from the lineup here I could tell they knew what they were doing. Each dish served in its own bowl — the mark of a place that knows food.

Since this is a restaurant with a tradition passed down through three generations, all the side dishes felt handmade too. A n d then, finally, the star of the show — crab soup — appeared.

How many blue crabs are in the crab soup?

Honestly, I ordered thinking that if there were even three crabs in it, that'd already be a lot. But no, genuinely, wow...

It's meant for two, and at ₩70,000 for crab soup that's like 2-3 servings, so how many crabs could possibly be in there? The portion was so huge I actually counted them myself. I counted one by one, and there were a full four crabs in it.

As a crustacean lover, I can't just pass with a high score because there are a lot of crabs — you have to check the meat yield too, right? Since they said it was Yeonpyeongdo blue crab, I did have some expectations going in.

Wow,,,, it's packed,,, the meat is packed full. Sir, is it really okay to sell it this way? This is honestly the best, wow,,,,

As a crustacean lover, and the daughter of a mom who's a master cook, I've never been satisfied buying crab soup before — but even so, I've always thought Chungcheong-do has the best crab soup nationwide. And within Chungcheong-do, Huni's is genuinely one of the best, I swear. The radish tastes like potato. Though honestly it probably would've been even better with actual potato in it.

Ah, I have to admit it, this is good. We ate late for lunch so the two of us didn't eat that much.

Even the candy here is legit — I forget the brand, but it's that really tasty candy that's recommended for pregnant women, and they had it right there for us ㅠㅠ Owner has serious taste. Please prosper forever.

Does Huni Gejang do takeout and nationwide delivery?

They said they source crab through direct deals with Yeonpyeongdo boat owners, carefully selected, using a recipe passed down for three generations. How could it not be good? Takeout is obviously available, and nationwide delivery too, so go ahead and order the soy crab by delivery. I haven't tried it myself, but it's guaranteed to be good.
