Gyukatsu restaurant near Seoul Station for dinner with kids: Furato
In short
Furato Shokudo Seoul Square Direct Store is a gyukatsu (Japanese-style beef cutlet) restaurant on the first basement level of Seoul Square, one minute from Exit 9 of Seoul Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. Over dinner with his wife and kids, the writer ordered the gyukatsu and the steki jeongsik (steak set), both served as rare striploin and finished on a mini tabletop grill: the gyukatsu melted in the mouth, while the steki had a firmer, meatier bite. Apart from small rice portions, Furato Shokudo works well for a family dinner with children or a date night.

On the way home from work not long ago, my wife and I headed down to the basement of Seoul Square near Seoul Station for dinner at Furato Shokudo Seoul Square location!

Furato Shokudo is known as a gyukatsu (Japanese-style beef cutlet) specialist, but I heard the curry and donburi are also great — apparently it's already a well-known spot among office workers near Seoul Station!

Inside Furato Shokudo Seoul Square
The interior wasn't huge, but it was clean and comfortable, so it never felt cramped — and with windows along one side, it had a nice open feel! Walking in, the staff greeted us warmly, which got the meal off to a good start!

Since the menu at Furato Shokudo Seoul Square Direct Store only shows up by scanning a QR code on the table, I took screenshots! You can also check the receipt review event and set menu details right there on the menu!

We went with Furato Shokudo's signature dishes — gyukatsu and steki jeongsik (steak set)!
One tray per person, with only a grill on the table
Furato Shokudo serves one set per person, so there wasn't a separate table setting — just a grill placed on the table!

While waiting for our food, I looked around and noticed the grill itself was spotless too — clearly this place takes care with its overall upkeep!

On one side of the table there were instructions for how to best enjoy the gyukatsu and how to join the review event — worth a read while waiting for the food to arrive!👍
Gyukatsu and steki jeongsik: rare striploin in both
The food arrived about 7 minutes after we ordered! The staff lit the grill for us and walked us through the dishes.

Butter comes complimentary with the gyukatsu, and they explained that both dishes use striploin cooked rare, so you grill it to your own preference on the tabletop grill! Having such attentive explanations made the whole experience so much better😄
Gyukatsu: how the beef cutlet tasted

Here's the gyukatsu served rare! The moment I saw it I let out a 'whoa' — the outside was fried crisp while the inside stayed rare, making the meat look incredibly fresh!

After melting the butter that came with it on the grill, we laid the gyukatsu pieces on one by one! Watching them sizzle away makes me want more already😄

First I tried a well-cooked piece dipped lightly in salt! The meat was so soft it practically melted away in my mouth — the most tender and delicious gyukatsu I've ever had!👍
The outside had that nutty breadcrumb aroma, and it blended with the butter scent and the meat's own savory smell to fill the whole mouth! I tried the other sauces that came with it too, but honestly, the meat itself was so good that salt suited it best for me!👍
Steki jeongsik (steak set): how the striploin tasted

Since we came with the kids, I was hoping to order at least one dish that wouldn't need grilling — but the steki jeongsik also came out rare, which caught me off guard a bit🤣

Unlike the gyukatsu, the steki has no breading, so we grilled it without adding any butter!
Same as before, the first bite went in salt — the meat was tender, and without the breading, the meaty aroma came through even more! Texture-wise, if gyukatsu melts in your mouth, steki has more of that fibrous, meaty bite — both are tender, but steki has a bit more chew to it! If you enjoy that satisfying bite of real meat, steki might be the better fit for you!
When I cut both up for the kids, they clearly preferred the gyukatsu — probably because it's softer😄
Pros and cons of dinner at Furato Shokudo
The biggest strengths of Furato Shokudo Seoul Square Direct Store were how tender the gyukatsu was and how easy it is to reach right by Seoul Station — the one letdown was the rice portion.
- ✔️ Pro: The restaurant is clean and the staff are friendly!
- ✔️ Pro: The most refined and tender gyukatsu I've ever had — genuinely delicious!
- ✔️ Pro: Great location makes it very accessible!
- ✔️ Con: Nothing really stands out as a downside, but if I had to pick one, the rice portion is on the smaller side!
Is Furato Shokudo Seoul Square worth it with kids?
With friendly staff and a clean space, it's a great pick for nearby office workers, and equally good for a Namsan outing or before catching a train at Seoul Station! True to being a specialist, the gyukatsu's breading held together well without crumbling, and stayed tender enough to eat cleanly.
It's quiet, not noisy at all, so it works perfectly as a date spot too! If you're looking for a gyukatsu specialist near Seoul Station, I'd definitely recommend this one!
