Seoul dakgalbi restaurant with wasabi mayo: Yaksu Chamsutbul Dakgalbi
In short
Yaksu Chamsutbul Dakgalbi is a long-running charcoal dakgalbi (grilled chicken) restaurant a 1-minute walk from Exit 10 of Yaksu Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. Arriving on a weekday at 4pm meant no wait, so the order was one serving each of charcoal dakgalbi in handmade soy sauce and herbal marinade plus salt-and-pepper chicken neck meat, washed down with soju-and-beer daytime drinks. The meat arrives pre-grilled, and the wasabi mayo sauce and complimentary doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) make Yaksu Chamsutbul Dakgalbi an easy recommendation in Yaksu-dong.

Where is Yaksu Chamsutbul Dakgalbi, and what about parking and waits?
Yaksu Chamsutbul Dakgalbi is just a minute's walk from Exit 10 of Yaksu Station, so it's super accessible. There's a paid lot right in front of the restaurant for about ₩5,000–₩10,000, and the nearby public option is Dasan-dong public parking lot!
The exterior has that old-school, well-worn look that screams local favorite. There's a sign-up sheet outside for the wait list — peak hours do get busy, but since we came around 4pm on a weekday, we walked right in, though people started lining up after us. Just goes to show it's the real deal.

The inside was pretty spacious! The tables weren't packed too tightly together, so we could eat comfortably.

The menu: dakgalbi and chicken neck meat by the single serving
The menu here is centered on dakgalbi and chicken neck meat, each with 3 flavor options! Since single servings were allowed, we ordered one each of the handmade soy sauce and herbal-marinade charcoal dakgalbi, plus the chicken neck meat with salt and pepper!

There's a helpful sign explaining how to eat it best — it comes pre-grilled, so you just need to keep flipping it on the charcoal in the middle so it doesn't burn. They explain this again when they bring the meat out too.

Side dishes at Yaksu Chamsutbul Dakgalbi come with free refills
The basic side dishes were lettuce wraps, green onion kimchi, aged kimchi, pickled radish, and seasoned wild greens — all things that pair perfectly with dakgalbi! Ask for more of anything and they'll refill it right away.

Since it's pre-grilled, it takes a bit of time for the dakgalbi to arrive! My friend brought Korean beef cookies as a Chuseok gift, so cheers with a photo and a soju-beer cocktail~~~

Grilling the herbal-marinade and handmade soy sauce charcoal dakgalbi
First came one serving each of the herbal marinade and soy sauce charcoal dakgalbi! They set them on the side, and as I mentioned, you just grill it well in the middle!

They gave each of us our own tongs haha, so we were each grilling our own meat! For personal sauces they gave us spicy sauce and wasabi mayo, and both went incredibly well with the dakgalbi!

Coming out pre-grilled makes Yaksu Chamsutbul Dakgalbi look even more appetizing! If you don't want it pre-grilled, tell them in advance and they'll serve it raw — but make sure to ask for it pre-grilled. Give it to me, give it to me!

Grilling away hard :) We grilled it piece by piece in the middle like beef, and staff kept checking in to make sure nothing was burning!

The wasabi mayo sauce was the kick of the day
I usually love spicy food, but that day the wasabi mayo sauce was the real kick! How did they come up with a sauce that pairs so well with this?

Adding chicken neck meat, plus the complimentary doenjang jjigae
After finishing everything, we ordered extra chicken neck meat. Everyone, you have to try this... It's such a rare cut that there's normally not much of it!! But here you can eat as much as you want haha. My friend said the chicken neck meat was the best part and that next time she'd order only that!

The doenjang jjigae comes free of charge~? It leaned spicy rather than deeply savory, and since we hadn't eaten rice yet, we considered getting some just for it!!! It was bubbling away and genuinely delicious — we almost ordered doenjang-stew rice just for it!!!
Is Yaksu Chamsutbul Dakgalbi worth a trip to Yaksu-dong?
I already knew this was a famous spot in Yaksu-dong, so I went in with high expectations for this blog visit — and sure enough, it delivered :) That old-school vibe with the pre-grilled meat full of charcoal smoke flavor! If you're looking for a dakgalbi restaurant among Yaksu-dong favorites, I highly recommend Yaksu Chamsutbul Dakgalbi!
