It had been a while since I had a proper Chinese course lunch, so I went to Dongbaek.

What comes with the 25,000-won lunch course B at Dongbaek?
The menu I ordered was Dongbaek's lunch special course B, ₩25,000 per person.
Looking at the menu, the lineup was more substantial than I expected.
The course runs from naengchae (cold salad) through abalone porridge, yusanseul, tangsuyuk made with tenderloin, yurinji, and gochu japchae, all the way to noodles and dessert.
First courses: dongbaek naengchae and abalone porridge
The course opened with dongbaek naengchae and abalone porridge. The seafood and vegetables together felt like a light way to open up your appetite, and the abalone porridge was smooth and easy to eat.
Yusanseul (stir-fried seafood and vegetables in thick sauce)
Mushrooms, vegetables, and meat came together in a thick sauce that made you want to order rice.
Tenderloin tangsuyuk and yurinji (crispy chicken in tangy sauce)
The crispy fried tenderloin tangsuyuk came with a sweet-and-sour sauce, onions, and vegetables. Yurinji is fried chicken topped with sauce and vegetables.
With two fried dishes back to back, it was fun trying each one.
🌶️ Gochu japchae with steamed flower buns
Onions, peppers, and meat stir-fried together and eaten with flower bread — very much a proper Chinese course dish.
Piling gochu japchae onto the flower bread was a great combination.
🍜 Filling finish: Dongbaek's house-made jjajangmyeon and jjamppong
The course finished with jjajangmyeon and jjamppong. Both are house-made noodles, and the noodles had a springy, chewy texture I really liked.
The jjajangmyeon came topped generously with a rich black bean sauce,
while the jjamppong had a striking look, full of mussels and clams.
Even after so many dishes, having a full noodle dish at the end made it feel like a proper meal. Dessert was pineapple and cookies.
🥤 Two self-serve stations: drinks in the hall, coffee at the entrance
Dongbaek's self-serve bar is split into two spots: inside the hall and at the entrance. Things you need while eating are easy to grab at the self-bar inside the store — water, tea, pickled radish, and other basics are all set up for you to help yourself as needed.
And on your way out after the meal, there's a separate coffee self-bar at the entrance. ☕ You make the coffee yourself to your taste and take it out with you, which was nice for grabbing a cup after the meal.
Being able to make it to your own taste on the way out was a fun touch. ☕
🚗 Where to park at Dongbaek in Gimhae
You can park in the building's basement lot or in front of the store, and there's also a separate second lot.
There's a sign for the second lot posted in front of the store, so if you're driving, it's worth keeping in mind. Second lot - Dongsang-dong 1114-2, Gimhae-si, Gyeongsangnam-do.
🎁 The review event running during our visit
Before leaving after the meal, I noticed a review event on the kiosk. You pay at the counter, get a receipt, write a review with a photo, then press the staff call button to take part.
Writing a review got you a random item from chili shrimp, small tangsuyuk, kkanpung-gaji (spicy fried eggplant), gung-jung mandu (dumplings), or a drink. If you're planning to eat the course and write a review like I did, it's worth checking for events like this too. 😊
