Ikseon-dong thin-crust pizza restaurant date night: Backstreet Pizza

We were on a date in Jongno and wanted something a little different for pizza, so we looked up Backstreet Pizza. It's tucked in the alley right behind Jongno pub alley, which makes it a great spot for a second stop or late-night bite if you're already out around Ikseon-dong or Jongno.

The crust here is thin and crispy, exactly our style as a couple. We're not really fans of pizza with thick, doughy crust, so this visit was especially satisfying.

Exit Jongno 3-ga Station through Exit 5 and walk about 200m toward the alley right behind Jongno pub alley — you'll spot a red door in the basement of the Deodream Livestock building. Since it's a basement shop, first-time visitors should double-check the entrance.

A basement room that feels like a European salon

Step inside Backstreet Pizza and the mood shifts right away, starting with the lighting. Antique crystal lamps hang on the walls, silverware decorates the wall surfaces, and there's even a framed photo parodying Van Gogh — plenty to look at in every corner. With soft lighting falling across deep navy walls, it felt less like a pizza place and more like some salon in Europe. The tables are placed fairly close together, which can feel cozy, but just know you might hear the table next to you.

Quarter Street Regular, 38,000 won: four signature flavors on one pie

Backstreet Pizza's signature dish is 'Quarter Street,' which lets you enjoy four signature flavors — Shrimp Gangster, Cheese & Patty Bomb, Potato Killer, and Pepperoni Shotgun — on a single pie. It's ₩38,000 for the regular size, a great option if you want to try several flavors at once.

Overall the crust is thin and crispy, which worked well for us as a couple who don't like thick, doughy pizza, and we thought the cheese quality was pretty solid too.

Shrimp Gangster: the shrimp were bouncy and fresh, with a spicy, savory kick — good as the first slice.

Cheese & Patty Bomb: with beef patty on top, it tasted like bulgogi (marinated beef) — sweet and salty, so we kept reaching for more.

Pepperoni Shotgun: loaded with pepperoni, so the spiciness really came through.

Potato Killer: topped with fries — a familiar combo, but it was the best of the four for us. Our number one pick.

The best order to eat the four Quarter Street slices

After trying all four, we recommend eating in this order: Shrimp Gangster → Cheese & Patty Bomb → Pepperoni Shotgun → Potato Killer. Moving from mild to spicy and rich means the sweet-salty Potato Killer really shines at the end.

There's also hot sauce and parmesan cheese powder at the self bar, so feel free to grab some and sprinkle it on!!

Kozel with dark chocolate powder and Redrock: the beer pairing

We had beer too!! We drank two glasses — Kozel and Redrock. Kozel let us choose a powder flavor, and I went with dark chocolate.

It's a dark beer with a gentle sweetness, so paired with the spicy Pepperoni Shotgun it softened the heat nicely, while Redrock went down light and easy, pairing well with the shrimp and cheese.

I think we'll go back. The thin, crispy crust really suited our taste as a couple who isn't into thick, doughy pizza, and getting to enjoy four flavors at once with Quarter Street was satisfying. That said, since the crust style is thin and crispy, those who prefer a thick, fluffy crust might be a bit disappointed, and the tables are somewhat close together, so if you want a quiet atmosphere, keep that in mind. Potato Killer was our favorite, so if we come back, we'll probably start with that slice again.
