Jeju sashimi takeaway for a sea picnic: Dutumhoe
In short
Dutumhoe is a sashimi takeaway stall inside Dongmun Market Night Market in Jeju, Jeju. We packed flatfish and salmon sashimi, futomaki, and coconut shrimp fritters to enjoy by the sea and at our accommodation, and loved the thick, springy fish and thoughtful chilled packing. Verdict: a convenient, filling Jeju travel meal, haha.

When you spend all day exploring Jeju, taking dinner back to your accommodation for an easy, relaxing meal is such a healing time, right? 💙 So I stopped by Jeju Dongmun Market and got sashimi, futomaki, and shrimp fritters to go. The name is Dutumhoe, meaning thick sashimi, and true to its name, the fish was seriously thick and springy—I was happy with every bite! The packing was great and the prices were not too burdensome, so it was a nice sashimi takeaway spot during a Jeju trip. Let me introduce it, haha.
Parking at Dongmun Market Gate 8 and finding the stall

I used the public parking lot right at Dongmun Market and parked directly in front of Gate 8, haha. It was a paid lot where a staff member checks your parking, but the first 30 minutes are free, so if you are just picking up an order like we were, you can use it for free ✅
It is inside Jeju Dongmun Market. Walk in just a little from the Gate 8 market entrance and you will spot the blue sign right away, so it was easy to find.

The owner here was so kind too ㅠㅠ It was my first visit, so I took a long time deciding, but they kindly explained the menu while packing my order and looked after every last detail. It made the visit even nicer, haha.

Sauces for each fish and chilled takeaway packing
I liked that they packed different sauces to pair with each type of fish. The salmon came with tartar sauce, and the sushi came with soy sauce, wasabi, pickled ginger, and rakkyo (pickled shallots). They matched sauces to the fish and provided them free of charge, which made ordering feel less burdensome, haha.
Everything was packed so neatly that the counter was a pleasure to look at too! Dutumhoe says it sells fresh wild-caught fish caught that day.

They even gave us three shrimp fritters as part of a review event! I tried them, and they were seriously, seriously delicious ㅠㅠㅠ Everyone, definitely do the review event..

Freshness is naturally what worries me most with sashimi takeaway, so I went in thinking ice packs and a chilled bag were essential. They packed both as standard with no extra charge. Such good sense!
We drove for about an hour after picking it up, but with the ice packs tucked into the chilled bag, I was not worried at all, haha.
They did not just give us sauces separately—they included disposable sauce dishes too, so there was nothing extra to prepare! Thanks to that, we decided on the spur of the moment to have a little picnic by the sea ⬇
Five pieces of futomaki by the sea
Futomaki, 5 pieces — ₩13,000
We had actually planned to eat it at the accommodation, but the futomaki looked so good.. waiting a whole hour was just too hard, hahaha. We saw the sea on the way there, pulled over for a moment, and ate it like a picnic while looking at the water ❤ It was neatly packed, so it was easy to take out and eat outdoors, and easy to pick up one piece at a time. It really suited a simple seaside picnic too.

It had salmon, flatfish, and shrimp inside, and every piece of fish had a satisfyingly thick bite. If the fish was this thick even in the futomaki, I could not wait to see how thick the sashimi would be ヾ(≧▽≦*)o

The thick texture of flatfish and salmon sashimi
Flatfish and salmon sashimi, ₩25,000. We finally arrived at the accommodation!! Wow.. I completely understood why it is called Dutumhoe, hehe.
The sashimi was cut thick, so I could already anticipate the texture just looking at it, haha. I got myself together and squeezed on a little lemon juice first to lift the fresh aroma 🍋 All the sauces they included were set out too! So thiiick, right?

I tried the salmon sashimi first, and it was clean with no fishiness at all, plus a lovely rich flavor, haha. They also included tartar sauce, and eating it together added a softer flavor for a totally different feel! Once again, I could feel how thoughtful it was that they included accompaniments to make every fish taste its best 🤤

Even fin meat.. For this level of quality at such an affordable price, I was so satisfied with the selection ( •̀ ω •́ )✧

Maybe because it was wild fish caught that day, the freshness really came through. And since the slices were so thick, each bite had that proper springy chew—it really made me feel like I had come to play near the sea.
A filling meal with coconut shrimp fritters too
Coconut shrimp fritters, 8 pieces. They included chili shrimp too. On the drive back with the takeaway, a nutty aroma kept drifting through the car, and it was honestly so hard to resist... More than the sashimi, the smell of the shrimp fritters made the drive to the accommodation feel even longer, hahaha.

Honestly, I did not expect much from the fried food when ordering sashimi, but when I tried it, it was really delicious, you know?? I saw lots of people ordering it while I was there, and after tasting it, I understood why it is popular, haha.
The coating is coconut, so there is a subtle coconut aroma, and it goes so well with the shrimp!! For reference, I am someone who does not usually like coconut, but I still found it so delicious. The shrimp inside the coating were plump and large, with a nice crisp, bouncy bite when I took a mouthful.

I am the type who does not get full from sashimi alone, so I loved having a side dish like this too. Having coconut shrimp fritters with the sashimi made it a pretty filling dinner.
