Hongdae Korean BBQ, water naengmyeon and 3,000 won fried rice: Ijjok

In short

Ijjok Kimchi Samgyeopsal is a staff-grilled pork belly restaurant in Seogyo-dong near Hongdae, in Mapo, Seoul. Arriving already full on a third round of the night, the writer ordered the 2–3 person set for 55,000 won (two servings of fresh pork belly, one whole pork jowl, steamed egg and doenjang jjigae), then added water naengmyeon at 7,000 won and fried rice at 3,000 won. Even on a full stomach Ijjok Kimchi Samgyeopsal tasted good enough to be worth a return visit as the first stop of the evening.

Hi everyone!! Today I'm bringing you a review of a Korean BBQ spot in Seogyo-dong~!! I went as my third round of the night and it was still so good that I've decided I have to bring my husband, who loves samgyeopsal, next time 😆💕

The place I went to is Ijjok Kimchi Samgyeopsal (이쪽 김치삼겹살)! If you're looking for a good Korean BBQ spot in Seogyo-dong, please read to the end 😉✨

What kind of place is Ijjok Kimchi Samgyeopsal?

Ijjok Kimchi Samgyeopsal is a pork belly specialty restaurant located in Seogyo-dong, Hongdae! It's famous enough that quite a few celebrities have apparently visited, so it's a real Seogyo-dong favorite 😲 Staff grill all the meat for you, so you can just sit back and enjoy 🙌

What's in the 55,000 won 2–3 person set, and how does it taste?

🥩 2–3 person set (₩55,000): 2 servings of fresh pork belly + 1 serving of whole pork jowl + steamed egg + doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew)! The set is so packed that you don't even need to pick anything else — this alone is plenty 😊

The fresh pork belly is grilled by staff from start to finish, and the timing was spot on, so I got to eat it at the perfect doneness 🔥 Pretty much everything tasted good, and if it was this delicious even while I was already full, I can't even imagine how good it'd be if I came properly hungry 🤤 I visited as my third round of the night, so I was already stuffed 😆

Honeycomb-cut whole pork jowl, doenjang jjigae and steamed egg

The whole pork jowl comes out uncut, but it's scored honeycomb-style before grilling, which is the signature touch! Maybe thanks to the scoring, the texture was seriously great to chew on 🤤 If you like pork jowl, you have to try this!

The doenjang jjigae had such a rich broth that it was so good!! 😭🙏 I never knew a hot spoonful of doenjang jjigae could pair this perfectly with meat 😋 The steamed egg came out beautifully fluffy, and the soft, custardy texture was so nice to eat alongside the meat 🥚

Finishing with 7,000 won water naengmyeon and 3,000 won fried rice

🍜 Water naengmyeon (₩7,000): the noodles weren't loosened up quite properly so they were a little clumped together, but even so it was so tasty that I thought, this is definitely the real deal! The cold broth cleared out my greasy palate perfectly, making it the ideal finish after all that meat 🙌

Water naengmyeon eaten as the finale, ₩7,000

🍳 Fried rice (₩3,000): only ₩3,000, but there's no skipping it as a finale!! 😆 Fried rice is a must at a samgyeopsal place, right 🔥
