Songpa pizza restaurant with draft beer: Hope So

In short

Hope So is a wood-fired pizza and beer restaurant in Songpa, Seoul, near Bangi Station and Olympic Park. I tried the Margherita pizza, beef brisket soy cream risotto, and a huge apple mango ade for 6,000 won. Verdict: an easy pick for dates, group dinners, or a late second round of drinks.

Introduction photo from a visit to Hope So in Bangi-dong

I was suddenly craving pizza, so my partner and I looked around for somewhere to go and ended up at Hope So, which is apparently known for wood-fired pizza in Bangi-dong. Once I visited, I thought it would be great for a date or family meal—and perfect for a company dinner too. Here’s why:

  • Great food, including wood-fired pizza and risotto
  • A variety of draft beers, wines, and snacks
  • A high-ceilinged, open layout that stays comfortable even with a group

If you’re looking for a good group-dinner spot in Bangi-dong, I recommend Hope So.

Hope So’s location and visitor information near Bangi Station

Hope So is very close to Bangi Station and sits just across one road from Olympic Park, so it is easy to get to in more ways than one.

It is open Monday through Saturday from 16:00 to 01:00 and closed regularly on Sundays. There are not many restaurants open late these days, but Hope So stays open until 1 a.m., making it perfect for a second round of beer or wine.

There is room for one or two cars in front of the restaurant. But there may already be cars belonging to earlier guests, so I recommend a nearby public parking lot. Reservations can be made through Naver and Catch Table.

What are the high-ceilinged first- and second-floor spaces like?

Hope So exterior or interior space

The first thing that surprised me on my first visit was just how incredibly high the ceiling was…

The space is divided between the first and second floors, and each floor is roomy with a high ceiling, so the sense of openness is no joke.

Hope So space suitable for groups

One reason I thought it would work well for company dinners is that it is large enough to fit almost three teams, yet it does not seem like it would feel cramped even with a group 🫢

Hope So first-floor terrace seating

There is terrace seating on the first floor too.

Hope So second floor with tables

The second floor also has quite a few tables, so renting this space privately would be perfect for a gathering without mixing with guests downstairs. We reserved ahead and were given a nice second-floor seat; it was cozy, yet it had a cool open view down below.

Hope So carries draft beers from nine countries, so everyone can order to their taste. My partner and I are not much of drinkers, so I also liked that they have non-alcoholic beer…

The little objects around the restaurant feel homey too. You can really sense the owner’s love for Ryan, haha.

If there is a sports game you want to watch, you can cheer along while watching it on the wall-mounted TV.

If I had to describe Hope So, it has a bright, warm atmosphere, just like its name. The interior feels a little like a beer hall and a little like an old-school Western-style restaurant, but there is a subtle sense of age and warmth from the care put into every corner. It felt like a beloved longtime spot in Bangi-dong.

We are the type to order a restaurant’s signature dishes, so we ordered Hope So’s signature Margherita pizza!

That mouthwatering red tomato sauce.

Margherita pizza with tomato sauce and mozzarella

It is topped generously with fresh mozzarella, basil, and tomato sauce, then baked directly in a 350°C wood-fired oven. Maybe that is why I could taste a subtle wood-fired flavor, while the thin crust and tomato sauce came together beautifully with the cheese.

The owner personally lights a candle to keep the Margherita pizza warm. Thanks to the candle, we could enjoy it warm throughout the meal.

This is the beef brisket soy cream risotto! It is made with flame-kissed beef brisket, cream, and soy sauce, and it is absolutely perfect for Korean tastes.

It had plenty of beef brisket on top, with lots of vegetables mixed inside too.

A hand-bigger apple mango ade and second-round menu

Wait, this was the apple mango ade we ordered as a drink, and when it first arrived, I was like, huh, is this really right? 🫢 It was bigger than my hand—is this really ₩6,000…? There was enough left even after two people shared it, haha.

For reference, Hope So has plenty of light side dishes besides main dishes such as pizza and pasta, so it is an easy place to come for a second round after a meal.
