I went to hang out in Mangwon-dong not long ago and it was just as great as ever! I'm a huge bread lover so I like this neighborhood even more... because so many people come here specifically to go bakery-hopping in Mangwon-dong, there are that many delicious bakeries. And out of all of them, I finally made it to the famous Boulangerie Copain! Let me show you what kinds of bread they have, what's popular, and what I actually tried! I had everything from angbutter to honey toast, baguette, chestnut bread, and more, and as expected it was all so delicious!

Looking for a Mangwon-dong bakery-hopping spot? Boulangerie Copain! What should you get there? Everything was good, but my number one pick is definitely the angbutter.

How to get to Boulangerie Copain in Mangwon-dong
If you walk from Mangwon-dong toward Mangwon Hangang Park, you'll hit an intersection, and it's in the alley right there! I took the bus — hopped on the Mapo 16 village bus and got off at Hwapyeong Church, and it was right there.

The Mangwon bakery featured on Life's Masters
✔️ Life's Masters episode 612, Feb 26, 2018 — baguette/croissant
This place is so famous partly because it was featured on Life's Masters (Saenghwalui Dalin)! Right at the entrance you can see the show's sign, and passersby were even saying "this is the bakery from Life's Masters, it's supposed to be good," which just built up my expectations haha.

They said the croissant and baguette were the ones featured on Life's Masters, and honestly, every bread I tried was delicious haha. It's a Mangwon-dong bakery run by someone trained in baking at an S-brand luxury hotel, baking authentic European-style bread with care every single day!

What kinds of bread does Boulangerie Copain sell?
Their signature items include croissant, baguette, chocolate baguette, basil crunch, ham cheese baguette, and more! There were even more kinds of bread than I expected.

Kouign-amann, cinnamon crookie, honey toast, melon cream bread, chocolate banana croissant, sliced brioche, mini brioche, chestnut bread

Mango danish, fig cream cheese baguette, basil sandwich croissant, Valrhona chocolate baguette

Ham cheese baguette sandwich, basil crunch, raspberry almond croissant, blueberry croissant, injeolmi (rice cake) croissant

Angbutter (butter and red bean sandwich), lemon cake, financier, fig financier, corn cheese sausage croissant, garlic cheese ball, pain suisse, tomato olive danish

I remember the baguette being ₩4,000, or maybe ₩4,500 — just ask at the register and they'll pull one out for you~! Also, the baguette, chocolate baguette, campagne, and basil crunch can all be cut for you, but the other breads can't be cut :)

The five breads the writer took home
Baguette & angbutter & chestnut bread, honey toast & pain suisse

Boulangerie Copain's TV-famous baguette
They said every loaf is kneaded and fermented by hand with care, and once you taste the baguette, you completely get it. The outside is crispy without being tough, the inside is soft and moist, and the more you chew, the more of that nutty, clean flavor comes through!

My mom loves baguettes so I bought her one, and sure enough she loved it and said it was delicious.

Angbutter: the top pick at Boulangerie Copain
The one that was especially delicious and exactly to my taste was the angbutter. This place is fundamentally a great baguette bakery, so the bread part of the angbutter is amazing too!

The rich, soft butter was nutty, and the red bean paste wasn't artificial-tasting or overly sweet either, so it was truly delicious!

Pain suisse and honey toast
And since this is a croissant destination, the pain suisse~! Truly crispy, pastry-like layers.

The honey toast was also charming — sweet with a rich buttery flavor you could taste alongside it. Every single piece of bread here really was delicious. I understood why it was on Life's Masters! A bakery that got featured that long ago and is still this popular now — that says it all!

Chestnut bread (bam sikppang)
From the almonds sprinkled on top to the generous amount of chestnut packed inside, nothing was overdone or excessive — it really felt like the flavor of the bread and ingredients themselves were the focus. This chestnut bread was truly well made. It's been a while since I visited a bakery where every single thing I picked was this high-level, and it made me so happy. If you're building a Mangwon-dong bakery-hopping list, Boulangerie Copain absolutely has to be on it!

Tips: the 7pm time sale and Mangwon Han River Park
Lastly, let me share a few tips too~! First, there's no dedicated parking lot, so you'll need to use the nearby public parking, but my tip is: take public transportation, walk there, buy bread with both hands full, and then spread out a mat at Mangwon Hangang Park to fully enjoy the moment! Mangwon Hangang Park is genuinely great, and you can even catch the Han River water bus right in front of it!

One more thing — every day after 7pm they run a time sale! 20% off if you spend over ₩20,000, and 30% off if you spend over ₩30,000, so if you're nearby, definitely stop by for some delicious bread~!
