Half cheese, half kimchi king egg roll at Jusangnakwon, Dongtan pub

I visited Jusangnakwon in Dongtan North Plaza to have dinner and a light drink. This place isn't just about drinking snacks — it's somewhere you can also settle your meal, so it seemed like a good spot to visit for dinner too.

Where is Jusangnakwon Dongtan North Plaza, and what is the space like?

Jusangnakwon is located near Dongtan Jungsim Sangga (central commercial district), so it wasn't hard to find. Parking is also available in the building, so it was fine to visit by car.

The store is spread across the 1st and 2nd floors, and it's quite a bit bigger than I expected. Maybe because it's a recently opened store, the whole place felt clean and tidy, and since it has an open kitchen, if you sit on the 1st floor you can watch the food being made to some extent.

What we ordered: half-and-half king egg roll and aged kimchi pork cutlet nabe

We ordered the half-and-half king egg roll for ₩18,900, aged kimchi pork cutlet nabe for ₩21,900, and a bowl of rice for ₩2,000. Since this is a place where you can enjoy a meal and drinks together rather than a plain bar, the two of us each picked one dish.

We visited just before 6pm. We took a seat on the 1st floor. After we came in, other customers started arriving one by one.

Crackers are served as a basic side snack. I don't usually go for crackers, but eating them after a while, they're actually delicious.

Since the two of us were visiting today, we decided to try a simple dinner. There were so many menu items it was hard to decide, but we agreed to each pick one.

Half-and-half king egg roll, 18,900 won: which two fillings?

My companion picked the half-and-half king egg roll. Egg rolls are so common I was going to skip it, but they said the "half-and-half" idea made them curious, so they ordered it. So what exactly is split in half?

True to its name, it comes out as a quite large king-sized egg roll. It turns out this isn't just a regular egg roll — half is filled with mozzarella and cheddar cheese, and the other half with stir-fried kimchi.

First, the cheese-filled side of the egg roll. Egg and cheese is a combination that can't go wrong. Perfect as a beer snack.

The stir-fried kimchi side added kimchi's distinctive savory depth, so it was nice being able to eat two different flavors side by side. I'd never had an egg roll like this before — a truly unusual treat. If you visit Jusangnakwon, I'd definitely recommend trying it once.

Aged kimchi pork cutlet nabe, 21,900 won: pork cutlet in aged kimchi broth

Next, the aged kimchi pork cutlet nabe (Japanese-style hot pot). I was torn between this and pork belly kimchi jjigae, but ended up choosing this. I was curious how the combination of pork cutlet and aged kimchi cooked together as a nabe would taste, and it worked out better than expected. As you can see, the portion is also enormous.

The nabe broth was quite salty, so we ordered a bowl of rice to share alongside it.

With aged kimchi in the hot broth, the soup itself was spicy yet clean and refreshing. Pork cutlet alone can be a bit greasy, but eating it together with the aged kimchi and broth cut through the greasiness nicely.

How does parking work at Jusangnakwon?

When I mentioned parking registration after the meal, they gave us a free parking ticket. Being able to handle parking so conveniently was really nice.

Verdict: dinner and drinks in one stop at Dongtan North Plaza

Jusangnakwon is a pub, but it also seems like a fine place to visit for a meal. Next time I'd like to try dishes I didn't get to today, like the iberico pork jowl direct-fire grill or the Korean beef with minari raw beef tartare.
