When you look for a café near Gyodae Station or the court on a weekend, more places than you might expect are closed. Maybe because so many cater mainly to weekday office workers, but the café options seem to shrink dramatically on weekends. So this time, while looking for a café open on weekends, I came across Mini Male Coffee Roaster Gyodae Court Branch. I was curious because it roasts its own coffee, and once I visited, I really liked the quiet atmosphere and varied coffee selection.

Mini Male Coffee Roaster Gyodae Court Branch is conveniently located from Gyodae Station. It is on the first floor of the Beopseomuso Pilsung building. It stays open relatively late on weekdays, so it seemed like a nice place to stop for a coffee after dinner. And one thing I personally liked was that there are decaf options! I tend to look for decaf in the evening because too much caffeine can keep me awake, so I was happy simply to have the choice.

A quiet atmosphere that made it even better

Once inside, the soft lighting was the first thing that caught my eye. The overall mood was calm and warm, a little different from the usual large cafés that are noisy and full of people talking.

The music was not loud, and the overall atmosphere was gentle, making it easy to focus on the coffee. I heard that people often use it for blind dates or meetings, and after visiting, I could see why.

It was not so quiet that it felt awkward, but it was not so noisy that surrounding sounds drowned out a conversation either. It was a great space for two people to sit and talk comfortably. Even though I visited on the weekend, it was nice to be able to settle in quite comfortably.

You can order at the kiosk. Looking through the menu, there were more types of coffee than I expected. It is a specialty coffee shop that sources its own beans, designs roast profiles, and roasts them, so coffee lovers may want to take a close look at the bean offerings too.

Along with the standard coffee menu, there were options such as milk tea and decaf, so it was easy to choose according to your taste.

Bakery treats chosen with coffee

I thought it sold only coffee, but when I looked to the side, there was quite a varied selection of cookies and bakery items too.

If I had visited hungry, I probably would have taken a while choosing dessert, haha.

That day, I chose babka and salt bread.

The bakery items here are baked directly by Bakery Lab in Gaepo-dong.

With breads that are easy to enjoy alongside coffee, it also seemed like a good place for breakfast or a light brunch.

Helsinki Latte is said to be Mini Male’s signature menu item. It was inspired by a latte enjoyed in Helsinki, Finland, during a Northern European trip, then reinterpreted with Mini Male’s own recipe. It has a character that differs a little from a typical café latte, so it seemed worth ordering at least once on a first visit.

After mixing the milk and espresso layers, it was not overly sweet, and I could taste both the nutty richness of the milk and the flavor of the espresso. If you do not particularly like very sweet lattes, this subtle sweetness may suit you better. It went down smoothly without losing the coffee flavor, which I found quite impressive. I ordered it because the name “Helsinki Latte” made me curious, and it suited my taste better than I expected.

A café latte true to the basics

The café latte I ordered alongside it had a more familiar flavor. The smooth milk and espresso blended naturally, with a nutty richness that made it easy to drink. It was not especially intense, and it paired well with the bakery items. If the Helsinki Latte is good when you want to try this café’s distinctive offering, the café latte felt like an easy, reliable choice.

I did not want to have only drinks, so I tried the bakery items too. The babka added a sweet note with coffee and paired quite nicely with the latte. The salt bread had a plain, savory exterior and a subtle saltiness, giving it a charm different from sweet desserts. Ordering both was nice because I could alternate between sweet bread and savory bread.

I especially liked that it is open on weekends, and since it is also open in the evening on weekdays, it seems useful when you have plans near Gyodae Station or the court. Because it roasts its own coffee, specialty coffee lovers may find it worth checking out too.
