I had an evening plan near Magongnaru and was trying to figure out what to eat, when I suddenly found myself craving really fresh sashimi. There are plenty of restaurants around Magongnaru Station, but I wanted to have a proper plate of raw fish with a drink, so I looked up good sashimi restaurants in Magongnaru and ended up at Singsing Hoe Susan Sijang Magoknaru Station Direct Branch.
What we ordered this time was the medium halibut+rockfish+salmon set — made up of fish I personally love! Chewy, clean-tasting white fish like halibut and rockfish, plus rich, soft salmon, all in one order — a perfect combination for us since we enjoy several kinds of sashimi.
Easy to find, close to Magongnaru Station
Singsing Hoe Susan Sijang Magoknaru Station Direct Branch is in a spot that's easy to reach on foot from Magongnaru Station. When making plans around Magongnaru, you sometimes end up having to walk surprisingly far from the station, but this place was convenient to get to by public transport, which I liked.
It seems like it would also work well for meeting friends in the evening or having a work dinner with colleagues. When looking for a good sashimi restaurant in Magongnaru, the food matters, but for a group gathering spot, location and accessibility matter a lot too — and on that front, this place delivered.

A place that really feels like a fish market, just as the name suggests
The first thing that caught my eye walking into the restaurant was the fish tank.

It's a bit different from a typical upscale Japanese restaurant — true to its name, it has the casual, market-style vibe of a place where you can comfortably eat raw fish. The interior was bigger than I expected, with plenty of tables, so it looked good both for two people and for larger groups.
When you look up good sashimi restaurants in Seoul these days, there are a lot of clean, small aged-sashimi specialty spots, but personally, sometimes I just crave the kind of place where a group can gather around a plate of sashimi and have a relaxed drink. This felt like the right atmosphere for that kind of day.

Ordering the medium halibut+rockfish+salmon set

Looking through the menu, we chose the medium halibut+rockfish+salmon set. There's a basic version without side dishes and a version set up with sujjeogi (small side dishes), and we ordered the version with side dishes — and it really was generous, haha^^
And honestly, when it's hard to pick just one kind of sashimi, an assortment is always the way to go. I wanted halibut, I wanted rockfish, and I didn't want to give up salmon either — having all three at once made choosing so much easier.
This is especially great when a group goes to a sashimi restaurant together, since everyone's tastes are a little different. Someone likes halibut, someone likes rockfish, and someone else likes salmon best — having all three together meant everyone could pick their favorite, which was a real plus.

Starting with a piece of halibut
Naturally, the first thing I reached for was the halibut, haha. Halibut's charm is its clean, chewy texture, so it's a fish I order often when I go out for sashimi. With a little wasabi and a light dip in soy sauce, it was chewy and delicious as always ^^
The mild flavor of halibut itself makes it easy to start with, and one of its strengths is that you can eat several pieces without feeling weighed down. I enjoyed it a few different ways — wrapped in lettuce, or just with a dab of wasabi.

The rockfish definitely had a better bite
Next was the rockfish. It's a white fish just like halibut, but alternating between the two, you really notice the texture difference. Rockfish is a bit springier and chewier than halibut, so it seems like it would suit people who love a firmer bite.
Comparing them bite by bite — halibut, then rockfish — was actually fun. When looking for a good sashimi restaurant in Seoul, I personally pay attention to the thickness and texture of the sashimi, and ordering halibut and rockfish together let me really feel the difference between the two.
A piece of salmon in between
And you can't leave out the salmon. After eating halibut and rockfish, a piece of salmon completely changes the flavor. If halibut and rockfish are on the clean and chewy side, salmon is much softer with a stronger, richer taste. It has that characteristic oiliness, which paired really well with soy sauce and wasabi.
If it's hard to pick just one of the three, I'd personally recommend a basic set like the halibut+rockfish+salmon combo, where you can enjoy all of them at once.
Plenty of menu items beyond sashimi
Singsing Hoe Susan Sijang isn't just about live-fish sashimi — they also offer mulhoe (cold raw fish soup), sushi, seafood, fried dishes, and soups worth ordering alongside it. For a group, it's a good setup to order one sashimi dish and add on whatever else you're missing.
Especially when you're drinking, you tend to crave a warm soup or something fried in between bites of sashimi rather than sashimi alone. Having this many menu options is a plus for anyone looking for a good sashimi restaurant in Magongnaru as a gathering spot.

A solid spot for gatherings or work dinners in Magongnaru
Having been there in person, I felt this is a place whose strengths really show when you visit with a group rather than just two people. For one, the restaurant is fairly spacious, and with several types of sashimi and seafood to choose from, it's easy for everyone to order according to their own taste.
There are a lot of companies around Magongnaru, so in the evenings there are plenty of people looking for a spot for a work dinner or a get-together. If you're after somewhere you can chat comfortably over sashimi and drinks rather than a stiff, formal Japanese restaurant, this seems like a good fit.
Singsing Hoe Susan Sijang: overall thoughts
The medium halibut+rockfish+salmon set I tried this time was satisfying because the three fish had such distinctly different characteristics. Clean, chewy halibut; springy, firm rockfish; and soft, rich salmon. Rather than eating just one kind the whole time, alternating between the three meant I never got tired of it, right to the end.
For anyone who has trouble picking just one type of sashimi, a set like this seems like a great option. It's also easy to reach from Magongnaru Station, and the restaurant is spacious enough that it worked well both for a couple of drinks with friends and for a larger group gathering.
If you're looking for a good sashimi restaurant in Magongnaru, or a good sashimi restaurant in Seoul where you can enjoy several kinds of raw fish without worry, consider checking out Singsing Hoe Susan Sijang Magoknaru Station Direct Branch. Next time, I'd love to order seasonal sashimi and seafood along with a warm spicy fish stew, in addition to the halibut, rockfish, and salmon, for a proper full spread.
