Dongbaek, Yongin floor-seating restaurant at evening peak: Baekcheongu
In short
Baekcheongu Kalguksu Yongin Dongbaek Branch is a seafood kalguksu (noodle soup) and seafood mandu jeongol (dumpling hot pot) restaurant that has stood in Dongbaek-dong, Yongin for 20 years. Two of us came during the evening peak and ordered the seafood mandu jeongol for two, fishing out the seafood first and then cooking half the dumplings, the noodles and the remaining dumplings in turn. Baekcheongu Kalguksu has shoes-off floor seating, a barley rice bibimbap that is a treat in itself, and a clear, bracing seafood broth that is the real point of the meal.

Baekcheongu Kalguksu Yongin Dongbaek Branch

Today I visited Baekcheongu Kalguksu Yongin Dongbaek Branch, a local favorite near the Dongbaek E-mart in Yongin! This place has been running for 20 years in Dongbaek-dong as a seafood kalguksu and seafood mandu jeongol spot — I've honestly lost count of how many times I've come here, that's how much of a regular I am. The clear, deep, refreshing seafood broth is the standout here! Let me tell you all about it.

Where it is and where to park — 5 minutes on foot from Dongbaek E-mart

Baekcheongu Kalguksu Yongin Dongbaek Branch sits between the Hosu-maeul and Baekhyeon-maeul neighborhoods. It's about a 5-minute walk from Dongbaek E-mart, near the pedestrian overpass on Dongbaek Café Street, so it's not hard to find. It's one of the local go-to spots that comes to mind when you're looking for somewhere to eat near the E-mart. Whether before or after grocery shopping, whenever I'm hungry, my feet naturally lead me here haha~

Parking is available on the street in front of the restaurant, though there are set hours for it — check the photo for reference. Parking is also possible behind the building, but note that space is a bit tight there.~!
Shoes-off floor seating, and a full house at evening peak

The interior of Baekcheongu Kalguksu Yongin Dongbaek Branch has a shoes-off, floor-seating layout.

Further inside, there are about 12 tables for four people. The photo above was taken during a daytime visit last time — during the day, the whole restaurant is filled with sunlight and has a bright, pleasant atmosphere.

This time I visited in the evening haha. Visiting during peak hours, there were so many customers that this is the scene that unfolded. Keep in mind that both lunch and dinner peak hours get busy~~! Also, there are cafés clustered around Baekcheongu Kalguksu, so it's great for grabbing a coffee and going for a walk around the neighborhood after eating. haha~
What's on the menu: seafood kalguksu, mandu jeongol, bibim guksu and kong-guksu

The menu at Baekcheongu Kalguksu Yongin Dongbaek Branch is shown in the photo above! The main dishes are seafood kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) and seafood mandu jeongol (dumpling hot pot),

and mandu (dumplings) are the go-to side dish.

They also sell seasonal bibim noodles and black soybean noodle soup, so if you want something other than kalguksu, you can try those instead.
What we ordered: seafood mandu jeongol for two
We visited as two people and ordered like this.~!

First, the basic side dishes were set: kimchi, bean sprouts, and green onion kimchi,

then the seafood, dumplings, kalguksu noodles, and barley rice for the hot pot were set out!

The barley rice bibimbap is the sleeper hit
The specialty here~~ making barley rice bibimbap yourself! Mix the barley rice with the sesame oil, gochujang (red chili paste), and side dishes on the table, and it's perfect for whetting your appetite before diving into the mandu jeongol.

How to eat it: seafood, half the dumplings, noodles, then the rest
We put the seafood into the pot first, boiled it, and ate it as it came out~~ then added half the dumplings, then the kalguksu noodles, then added the rest of the dumplings and kept boiling~~! For two people, 8 dumplings are provided. You can choose between meat or kimchi dumplings, so we went half-and-half!

The kalguksu noodles are wonderfully chewy! Simmered in that clear, deep broth along with the dumplings until fully cooked~!?
Restaurants that have stayed in business this long in Dongbaek all have that kind of staying power for a reason. I fell for the clean broth that really hits the spot — my parents love this Dongbaek restaurant too, haha! Having stood the test of 20 years in Dongbaek-dong, the deep, refreshing seafood-based broth is truly excellent. Both the kalguksu and the mandu jeongol have an incredibly clean broth flavor.
Final verdict on Baekcheongu Kalguksu in Dongbaek
Having held its ground in Dongbaek-dong for close to 20 years, this place is already well known among locals for its broth dishes! Whenever you're craving something warming and not too spicy, or a refreshing broth to soothe your stomach, drop by Baekcheongu Kalguksu Yongin Dongbaek Branch for a satisfying meal. :)
