Group dinner BBQ with parking in Yongin: yukhoe naengmyeon, Dongbaek
In short
Dongbaek Hanokjip Charcoal Grill Butcher Restaurant is a Korean pork and hanwoo beef charcoal-grill butcher restaurant near Eojeong Station in Giheung-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi. On a Friday at 8 p.m., the writer and his wife picked one pack each of pork belly, pork neck and galmaegisal (pork skirt) from the butcher counter, grilled them over charcoal, then added hanwoo yukhoe naengmyeon (cold noodles with raw beef). With its own parking lot, one hour of validated parking at the neighbouring Lavista building, no table setup fee and a generous self-serve bar, Dongbaek Hanokjip works well as a Dongbaek group dinner spot with no parking worries.

What kind of BBQ restaurant is Dongbaek Hanokjip?
A well-known BBQ spot in Dongbaek, Dongbaek Hanokjip specializes in charcoal-grilled Korean pork. My wife and I stopped by for dinner tonight.
We arrived around 8pm on a Friday, and even at that late hour there were quite a few customers eating. Still, we didn't have to wait and got seated right away.
Unlike a typical BBQ place where you order by the portion, Dongbaek Hanokjip is a butcher restaurant where you can go to the meat counter and pick out exactly what you want to eat.
This time we decided to try Korean pork belly, pork neck, and skirt meat (galmaegisal). Let's get into it~
Dongbaek Hanokjip location, hours and parking
- Address: 221 Eondong-ro, 1st floor, Giheung-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea (about 162m from Eojeong Station Exit 1)
- Hours: closed every Monday, Tue–Sun 11:30–21:30 (last order 21:00)
- Weekday lunch special: 11:30–14:30
- Parking: dedicated lot in front of the restaurant (if full, 1 hour validated parking at the neighboring Lavista building's underground lot)

Dongbaek Hanokjip is in Jung-dong, Giheung-gu, Yongin, near Eojeong Station. We drove, and since there's a dedicated lot, we could park right away.
If the dedicated lot is full, apparently you can use the underground lot at the Lavista building next door with an hour of validated parking. Parking is often a reason people hesitate to visit a BBQ restaurant, but here it wasn't an issue at all.

Once inside, the restaurant was bigger than I expected. It was busy for a Friday evening, but we got seated without waiting. The staff were friendly too.
Picking three Korean pork cuts at the butcher counter

One thing I really liked about Dongbaek Hanokjip is the butcher counter. You can see exactly what cut and condition of meat you're getting, so we picked one pack each of pork belly, pork neck, and skirt meat.

Each pack had its own weight and price, so we chose our Korean pork based on the prices marked at the counter. And I liked that, even though it's a butcher restaurant, there was no separate table setup fee.

Banchan and the self-serve bar

Once you sit down, basic side dishes to eat with the meat are set out. For extra sides you use the self-serve bar, which was stocked with plenty of variety.

When you're eating BBQ, you keep going back for more lettuce wraps and side dishes, so it was convenient to just grab what we needed ourselves instead of asking the staff every time.
Charcoal-grilled pork neck, galmaegisal and pork belly

The charcoal was brought to the table, and once the grill plate had heated up enough, we put the meat on. Since it's the same meat we picked at the butcher counter, we could check the thickness and condition of the meat ourselves as we grilled it. (This grill plate is actually meant for beef.)

We started with the pork neck. It had a high proportion of lean meat, so it ate light and wasn't dry at all. If you prefer leaner cuts over fattier ones like pork belly, pork neck is probably the safest choice.
Next was the skirt meat (galmaegisal). It wasn't chewy, but had a good amount of bite to it. The texture was completely different from the pork neck, so ordering a few different cuts together turned out to be a good call. Personally I like switching between cuts while eating BBQ, and being able to pick and choose like this is one of the perks of a butcher restaurant.
Last was the pork belly. Grilled golden brown on the plate, it had a nice charred flavor on the outside while staying tender inside. It was good plain, but a little salt or wasabi paired well without covering up the meat's flavor too much.

After trying all three, I found it was better to order pork neck, skirt meat, and pork belly together rather than stick to just one — comparing the different flavors and textures of each cut was part of the fun.
A bowl of suhyangmi rice for 1,000 won

The rice bowl is made with suhyangmi rice, and it had a subtle nutty aroma with more chew than regular rice, which went even better with the meat.
Hanwoo yukhoe naengmyeon: mix it right to the bottom

We finished with hanwoo yukhoe naengmyeon (cold noodles topped with raw beef tartare). On top of the noodles was a generous helping of yukhoe and seasoning sauce, cucumber, egg garnish, sesame seeds, and green onion. With the yukhoe gathered in the center, it looked great too.
At first I tried the broth without mixing in the sauce, and it tasted surprisingly bland — I was a bit thrown off for a moment. But it turned out the seasoning sauce was sitting at the bottom of the bowl, under the noodles. Once I mixed the noodles, yukhoe, and broth thoroughly with the sauce underneath, the seasoning kicked in and the flavor completely changed. If you order the yukhoe naengmyeon, I'd recommend mixing it thoroughly all the way to the bottom from the start.
Lunch special for office workers near Eojeong Station

On weekdays from 11:30am to 2:30pm, a lunch special is available, made up of beef bulgogi hotpot, hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap, and hanwoo yukhoe naengmyeon — a good option for office workers eating lunch near Eojeong Station.
We visited in the evening this time and didn't try the lunch special ourselves, but it's worth noting that beyond the grilled meat, there are proper set-meal options available too.
Why Dongbaek Hanokjip works for a group dinner

Drinks are self-serve, straight from the fridge. Soju and beer were ₩4,000 each. Being able to grab what you need right away, combined with plenty of seating, made it look easy to use for an evening group dinner.

Next to the table, a call bell, small plates, tongs, scissors, and a spare grill plate were all neatly set out. Being able to grab what we needed right away meant we didn't have to call the staff over repeatedly during the meal. The staff were also happy to explain anything we needed, so even on a first visit it wasn't hard to figure things out.
