Gangnam Station café: einspänner and financiers to go, Upper and Under
In short
Upper and Under is a dessert café in Gangnam, Seoul, spread over three floors from the basement to the 2nd floor, midway between Sinnonhyeon Station and Gangnam Station. After a Korean beef dinner with her aunt, the writer stopped in for a second round at a 2nd-floor outlet seat, ordering an einspänner (cream-topped coffee) for 8,000 won and a crème brûlée flan for 6,900 won, then packed the leftover pistachio and plain financiers to go. Upper and Under is an easy Gangnam Station pick for cream coffee and baked pastries.

Last week, after a Korean beef date with my aunt at a private-room restaurant near Gangnam Station, we headed over to Upper and Under, a Gangnam Station café, for a sweet dessert round. It's a 7-minute walk from Gangnam Station on the Sinbundang Line, so it made for a nice little stroll to this hot spot in Gangnam.

Where is Upper and Under, and what about parking and hours?
This Gangnam Station café is located at 28 Gangnam-daero 102-gil, B1-2F, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, open daily 11:00-22:00. Upper and Under sits roughly halfway between Sinnonhyeon Station and Gangnam Station. It's a standalone building diagonally across from Highway Gisa Sikdang, with the Upper and Under sign clearly visible.
Like most Gangnam Station cafés, there's no dedicated parking lot, so if you're driving, I'd recommend a nearby public parking lot or Boutique Monaco, which offers free weekend parking with a Hyundai Card.

2nd-floor outlet seats and what each floor of Upper and Under feels like
Upper and Under has hall seating from the basement up to the 2nd floor, each with a different mood, and you order bakery items and drinks at the 1st-floor counter. Their strawberry fraisier is also famous, but it's seasonal, so figs are the star dessert right now.
I liked the minimal furniture arrangement at this Gangnam Station café. Since my phone battery was running low, we sat at a wall table on the 2nd floor with outlets.

Upper and Under menu and prices
Mango sherbet latte, coconut matcha / matcha pistachio cream coffee, peach oolong tea, scotch banana / banana coconut brown cheese latte, fig / caramel cheese pie, salty caramel canelé, dirty chocolate madeleine, salted chocolate financier, matcha canelé, raspberry / earl grey grapefruit pie, and more. Also worth noting: they give out 1 free financier to the first 10 people who write a Naver receipt review each day.

- Espuma coffee ₩8,000 / Americano ₩6,500
- Crème brûlée flan ₩6,900 / Financier ₩3,800
- Pistachio financier ₩4,500
Since this Gangnam Station café's main focus is baked pastries, I ordered financiers to take home along with a sweet crème brûlée flan — both looked adorable and cute. Great desserts to enjoy with coffee at Upper and Under.
How was the einspänner at Upper and Under?
Upper and Under's Vienna-style espuma coffee balances bitter espresso with a soft, sweet cream layer so well that even my aunt, who likes things sweet, enjoyed it. A cream coffee spot worth knowing at Gangnam Station✨️

They have a good variety of cream coffees to choose from depending on your taste, and they even give you a separate spoon to scoop up the cream layer, which makes this espuma coffee both sweet and bitter in a fun way. The chocolatey sweetness ties it all together nicely.
Crème brûlée flan, 6,900 won: first time trying it
This was my first time trying Upper and Under's crème brûlée flan. It's pie-sized with a thin, crackly sugar coating on top, and it's fun to crack it open with a knife.

The moist, sweet custard filling pours out, and the crackly brûlée top pairs really well with the sturdy pie crust. The crème brûlée flan alone is a great sugar boost, so I packed up the leftover pistachio and plain financiers, which they wrapped nicely in parchment paper and plastic.

Is Upper and Under worth a second round near Gangnam Station?
Upper and Under is a Gangnam Station café with great accessibility, sweet desserts, and smooth cream coffee. It also has separate restrooms for men and women, so it's comfortable for anyone to visit — a big Gangnam/Sinnonhyeon café worth checking out :)
