Upper and Under is a terrace café on Gangnam-daero 102-gil, between Sinnonhyeon and Gangnam stations. I recently discovered a really great café near Gangnam Station.

It's a terrace café called 'Upper and Under,' located between Sinnonhyeon and Gangnam stations, and it was so lovely on an autumn day that I wanted to introduce it.

Upper and Under: a Gangnam café spread over three floors
Upper and Under is divided into 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors. This layout was the biggest surprise on my first visit. I learned that orders can only be placed on the 2nd floor,

but thanks to this system, you actually get to properly enjoy the atmosphere of each floor.

The 1st floor is made up of table seating, and after ordering on the 2nd floor, you move to whichever floor you like.

If you're looking for a good spot in Sinnonhyeon or Gangnam, this is one to check out. It's also conveniently located, within easy walking distance of both Sinnonhyeon and Gangnam stations.

A terrace on every floor at Upper and Under
Upper and Under's biggest charm is the terrace atmosphere. Each floor has its own distinct terrace space, and I especially loved the 2nd-floor terrace. Trees naturally surround it, so even in the middle of the city you can feel a real sense of quiet.

Even visiting at night, the street noise wasn't loud at all, which I appreciated. The gentle breeze was lovely too, and I got to fully enjoy the charm of a night-view café while spending a relaxed stretch of time.
What the indoor seating at Upper and Under is like
Inside Upper and Under, the tables are spaced generously, so it never feels cramped.

The gap between tables was just right, so noise from neighboring tables wasn't a bother.

So I could chat comfortably with a friend, and it also seems like a great spot for anyone wanting some personal time. This layout makes it a solid pick for a date course too.

If you're after a café with real atmosphere, this place should satisfy you.
Coconut matcha and signature milk tea at Upper and Under

The coconut matcha I ordered was really impressive.

I tried a spoonful before mixing in the cream, and the matcha's deep flavor came through smoothly.

The cream's texture was so good I could've been satisfied just eating it with a spoon. Once fully mixed, the harmony between the matcha and coconut was really great. It's basically a cream-lover's dream, haha.

My partner's milk tea was also really good. As a signature drink should be, the balance of sweetness and milk was spot on.

It wasn't too sweet, and the distinct fragrant quality of milk tea came through nicely.

After one sip I thought, 'no wonder this is so popular.'
Is the lemon cake at Upper and Under worth ordering?
Visiting at night, most of the popular cakes at Upper and Under were sold out.

So I went with the lemon cake instead, and it turned out to be a great choice.

The fresh lemon slice on top looked clean and elegant, and it tasted really good too.

The sponge was moist yet soft, with lemon cream layered in the middle. The lemon's tartness wasn't overpowering, so it paired beautifully with the drinks.

It really felt like a dessert made with care, true to a dessert café worth its reputation.
Night views from the 3rd-floor terrace
Enjoying dessert while taking in the night view from Upper and Under's 3rd-floor terrace was genuinely lovely.

The night sky glimpsed through the trees was beautiful, and the soft breeze made for a truly relaxing time.
Just spending time in that atmosphere was more than enough to feel satisfied.

If you're after a terrace café recommendation, I don't think there's a better choice than this one.
