In short

Today I visited Hwangnam Dukkebi, a Korean restaurant on Hwangnidan-gil in Gyeongju that's great to bring kids to! Hwangnam Dukkebi is already super famous. It gets a lot of waiting and has all kinds of menu items, so let me walk through the menu in detail along with some waiting tips!
Where is Hwangnam Dukkebi, and what about parking and hours?

Hwangnam Dukkebi Restaurant Hwangnam Main Branch is at 16 Poseok-ro 1050beon-gil, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and it's open 11:00–21:00, with a break time from 15:00–17:00. Parking is recommended at nearby public lots.
It's located near the intersection by the invention science museum and the webtoon campus's back gate. If you're driving, I recommend using the public parking lots around the area.

Five parties already waiting: how to skip the line at Hwangnam Dukkebi
Waiting tip for Hwangnam Dukkebi! When you walk in there's a TableManager kiosk, and even though I did an opening run there were already 5 parties waiting! It's a famous spot on Hwangnidan-gil in Gyeongju, so on weekends the waits get long.
I'd recommend arriving 10 minutes before opening, and if an opening run is tough, try Naver Reservations! (no deposit, same-day booking possible). I made an 11am Naver reservation and arrived on time — there were 5 parties waiting ahead of me, but since reservation holders go first, I got seated right away!
Retro Gyeongju mood inside and on the patio

Hwangnam Dukkebi Restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating, and I sat at the spacious, atmospheric outdoor patio.
What's on the Hwangnam Dukkebi menu?

It's a dog-friendly restaurant, so it's a great pick if you're looking for a place you can visit with your dog!

A tidy Korean spread for dates and family trips

ORDER — Jar-aged 60-day old kimchi rib stew (2 servings) ₩16,900 x 2, golden corn pancake ₩9,900, gondre rice ₩5,000, sikhye ₩1,000.
The retro atmosphere matches the visuals of the food so well.

Old kimchi rib stew! Once it's bubbling away, you can dig right in.

A savory buckwheat pancake came free with the rib stew!

The specialty golden corn pancake! Kids will genuinely love this one.

Fragrant, nutrient-packed gondre (Korean thistle) rice! There's plenty to share between two people.

You absolutely have to try the sikhye (sweet rice punch) here. The icy sikhye is so sweet, cool, and just insanely good.

Such a delicious combo! I've tried the original, the royal court version, and the Cheomseongdae 7-dish set, and my top pick is the jar-aged 60-day old kimchi rib stew!
How does the aged kimchi rib stew taste? Big portions, deep savory flavor

Hwangnam Dukkebi Restaurant's aged kimchi rib stew comes loaded with glass noodles, mushrooms, and shredded green onion, along with a whole piece of well-ripened old kimchi.

The ribs are cooked so well that the meat pulls right off the bone. The old kimchi gives it even deeper savory depth. The balance of tangy and spicy was just artful. The broth isn't too salty and is so delicious that adding extra ramen noodles or glass noodles makes it even better.

The crispy, chewy golden corn pancake has a light drizzle of condensed milk, adding an extra layer of sweetness that's just perfect. The buckwheat pancake, made with buckwheat from Bongpyeong, Gangwon-do, is chewy and nutty, pairing so well with the ribs. The gondre rice, packed with gondre from Jeongseon, Gangwon-do, is fragrant, fluffy, and absolutely delicious!
Is Hwangnam Dukkebi worth the price in Gyeongju?
