Wood-fired mackerel hanjeongsik at Geumdeungeo Dalseo Branch, Daegu
In short
Geumdeungeo Dalseo Branch is a 660-square-meter wood-fired fish hanjeongsik (Korean full-course set meal) restaurant on the 3rd floor of Jincheon Mat Town in Dalseo, Daegu. The writer ordered the signature Geumdeungeo hot-pot rice set for two with a side of neopttigi beef jeon, eating mackerel grilled for 5 minutes in a 400-degree wood-fired oven, freshly made hot-pot rice, and handmade side dishes prepared every morning. With private blinded seating and parking, it's a great fit for a family gathering with parents.

The essence of mackerel grilled in a 400-degree wood-fired oven! A great Dalseo hanjeongsik (Korean full-course set meal) restaurant for taking your parents: Geumdeungeo

If you're looking for a Daegu hanjeongsik restaurant good for taking your parents
Whenever I'm treating family or dear friends to a nicer meal out, I always end up doing a storm of searches for a quality Daegu hanjeongsik restaurant

Today I visited Geumdeungeo Dalseo Branch, an absolutely massive restaurant located in Jincheon Mat Town. Based on the excellent philosophy of 'eosikbaekse' (living to a hundred through fish), it pairs nuruk salt curing with a 400-degree wood-fired oven to create incredible grilled mackerel! Here's my honest review after thoroughly demolishing the neat hot-pot rice set and savory neopttigi beef jeon
There's an outdoor lot on the 1st floor too, but parking on the 3rd floor was convenient since it leads straight into Geumdeungeo
An interior of about 660 square meters, with a side-dish counter and drink station
The moment I stepped inside, my jaw dropped at the overwhelming scale — a huge space of about 660 square meters, the sheer size was incredible

They even sell house-made side dishes, dried yellow corvina, mackerel, soy sauce, gochujang, and doenjang — truly nothing was missing

They even sell fried snacks, with a frying machine right there in the store, perfect for a snack after your meal

And the drink corner set up in one part of the restaurant made me want to applaud the owner's sense of style — a Daegu hanjeongsik restaurant with the huge advantage of letting you finish your meal and dessert time all in one place (and it's even Starbucks beans)

The interior has high ceilings and private seating, making it pure comfort
Without the usual crowded bustle of a regular restaurant, the relaxed and upscale atmosphere makes it ideal for family gatherings, company dinners, or group meetings in Wolseong-dong
Side dishes via robot service and a self-serve corner
Since the restaurant is so large and has so many customers, a robot delivers the standard side dishes — it was moving around so busily
There's a self-serve corner in the center of the restaurant where you can freely help yourself to more side dishes. Definitely try the candied carrots and seasoned doraji (bellflower root) — genuinely delicious 👍

There was also plenty of japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) prepared, and it was refilled just as it started running low, so there was never a moment of scarcity
What did I order?

Geumdeungeo, a Wolseong-dong hanjeongsik restaurant, offers various hot-pot rice sets centered on wood-fired grilled fish. I ordered their signature Geumdeungeo hot-pot rice set, adding a side of neopttigi beef jeon

They're currently running a Chuseok gift set discount too, with good prices and free shipping available — worth noting!
Side dishes made fresh every morning

Once I finished ordering, the basic side dishes were set out — a variety of house-made namul (seasoned vegetables), fresh salad, geotjeori (fresh kimchi), japchae, and other high-quality handmade side dishes made fresh every morning at the restaurant, easily enough to finish a bowl of rice on their own

These weren't just side dishes for show — they weren't overly salted and let the natural flavor of the ingredients shine, so they were easy to eat without feeling heavy. The japchae was great, and this fried eggplant especially was crispy outside, tender inside, and so delicious

They also serve doenjang guk (soybean paste soup), which you cook right at your table so you can enjoy it hot all the way through
The Geumdeungeo hot-pot rice set for two and neopttigi beef jeon

Finally, the main dishes arrive — mackerel and beef jeon 💕

True to its name 'neopttigi,' a Gyeongsang-do dialect word meaning wide and flat, the beef jeon (pan-fried beef in egg batter) came out large and spread wide, and it didn't disappoint
The thin, tender beef was perfectly coated in the egg batter, not chewy at all, and it melted in my mouth. If eating just fish alone might leave you wanting a bit more, this beef jeon perfectly filled that gap
5 minutes in a 400-degree wood-fired oven: the grilled mackerel
The mackerel, grilled for exactly 5 minutes in the intense 400-degree wood-fired oven, was visually stunning from the start

The skin was grilled golden and crispy like a cracker, and when I flaked off the flesh with my chopsticks, glossy, moist, pale white flesh appeared — wow 💕 This is exactly how fish should be grilled
Next came the hot-pot rice — the moment the lid was lifted, white steam rose up, and every single grain of rice glistened as if brushed with sesame oil

They said they're strict about using good rice, and it showed — even plain, the rice had a naturally pleasant sweetness and chewiness that wrapped around every bite
Private seating hidden behind blinds
Once all the food arrived, I lowered the blind at my table to enjoy everything privately!! I've never seen a place like this in Daegu before — a restaurant that was truly serious about interior design and privacy 👍

Maybe because the mackerel is cured in nuruk salt, there was absolutely no saltiness or fishy smell, just a deep, clean flavor that grew on you with every bite

Piled on top of the freshly made, sticky hot-pot rice, it was an absolute rice thief. A place aiming for a low-sodium, anti-aging diet that leaves your stomach feeling completely comfortable even after eating!

Just as the meal was wrapping up, they even served rice cakes — wow, sweet and chewy, so good, a perfect finish all the way through. If you're looking for a proper Daegu hanjeongsik restaurant for a meal with the people who matter to you, I wouldn't hesitate to strongly recommend Geumdeungeo
