Sonsi Sushi Hayang branch
Near Hayang Station, right by Daegu Catholic University
Sonsi Sushi is famous for sushi! I used to go to the Yeongdae branch all the time back in school, but this was my first visit to the Hayang branch :) It's located near Hayang Station, right in front of Daegu Catholic University.
What about parking?
There's one parking spot in front of the restaurant, and if you use the Hayang Station lot or Hayang Sauna lot, they support ₩1,000 of your parking fee. Just take a photo of your parking as proof!
Interior seating and reservations
Inside it's a cozy spot with two 4-person tables, three 2-person tables, and a bar table. It used to run across 1st and 2nd floors but has been remodeled into a single-floor space. They don't take reservations in general, only the 11:30 opening slot via Naver, and there's a separate waiting area set up.
Sonsi Sushi's signature: Gyeongsan jujube-aged soy sauce
Sonsi Sushi's defining feature is Korea's first jujube-sushi soy sauce — a low-sodium aged soy sauce brewed from Gyeongsan's local specialty jujubes, which deepens the flavor of the sushi!

Menu lineup and ordering
You order through the tablet on the table. There are lunch-special items available at lunchtime, plus value sets and premium sets you can enjoy as a course.

There's a sushi platter, maki rolls, udon, cold buckwheat noodles, fried items, and individual sushi pieces too. All sushi menus include a small bonito udon, and upgrading to a large portion or cold buckwheat noodles adds an extra charge.

We upgraded the value set's sushi to the premium tier, and also ordered the Sonsi Anago-liver Futomaki and a Zero Pepsi.

The default water at Sonsi Sushi is barley tea. It's been a while since I had barley tea this good.

The value set + premium 12pc sushi
Cheers, first came out the value set. It includes a sushi platter + bonito udon + aged vinegar-gochujang sashimi rice bowl + house-sauce fried shrimp. Normally it's 10 pieces of sushi, but we upgraded to premium so we got 12 pieces. Look at that visual~~

The value set lets you enjoy Sonsi Sushi's top 3 menu items all at once — it's the best choice for two people when you can't decide what to order.

Last to arrive was the anago-liver futomaki.

Kombu-cured, brine-aged, and fire-aged — you can experience all three aging techniques on one platter with Sonsi Sushi's signature premium 12pc. Starting from the grilled sushi and eating left to right lets the flow of flavors connect more naturally, piece by piece.

Aged vinegar-gochujang sashimi rice bowl
A house-made makgeolli vinegar-gochujang sauce that pairs so well with the sashimi rice bowl! The umami is truly overflowing. The bowl is packed with vegetables, and there's flounder and salmon under the egg strips.

Bonito udon
Udon that pairs so well with sushi as always — I love the hot broth ><. Plump, chewy noodles too.

Sonsi Anago-liver Futomaki
Sonsi's futomaki lets you taste the deep flavor of bigeye tuna and aged salmon. Less rice, more filling — genuinely delicious. And the savory, rich anago liver on top is a total delicacy.

Dip in the jujube soy sauce, piece by piece
Pour the jujube soy sauce into the small dish and start with the thick grilled salmon first. The salmon really melts in your mouth. Not a hint of fishiness — the sashimi is truly fresh.
The eel, soy-sauce shrimp, and octopus gunkan rolls have a spicy kick and are so delicious, and the flounder — sourced from fresh large flounder from Wando — is also chewy and tasty.

And finally the freshly fried, crispy shrimp tempura. Sushi, fried food, rice bowl, and udon — a truly satisfying set menu! There was so much food I thought I was going to burst.
