Summer vs autumn 1-person sets with mom: Bapeul Jitda Gyeongsan

In short

Bapeul Jitda Gyeongsan Main Branch is a seasonal Korean set-menu restaurant on Samseonghyeon-ro in Gyeongsan, Gyeongbuk. Revisiting after six months, the writer and her mom ordered the summer set (live abalone mulhoe and mini abalone porridge) and autumn set (live abalone porridge and doenjang stew) side by side, seated in the quiet back corner on a late visit. A solid pick if you're looking for a calm Korean meal spot to bring your parents in Gyeongsan.

I visited this place six months ago, and it came to mind again, so I went back. It's Bapeul Jitda Gyeongsan branch, a great place when you're craving a full Korean set meal (hanjeongsik) in Gyeongsan.

A lot of places are one-and-done, but this one had clean food and felt right for eating with guests or family, so this time I went with my mom.

Gyeongsan Korean restaurant Bapeul Jitda: parking and atmosphere

Bapeul Jitda Gyeongsan is located on Samseonghyeon-ro in Gyeongsan.

There's plenty of parking right around the restaurant, so it was easy to visit by car. Parking always feels like a bigger deal when I'm moving around with my parents, and it was nice not to worry about that here.

Once you're inside, the overall vibe is clean and calm, which makes it a good spot for a family meal.

The tables aren't packed too tight, and there are rooms and group seating too, so it seems like a good option not just for meals with parents but for family gatherings or group get-togethers.

In the restaurant's own listed info, it's actually described as good for family gatherings, meals with parents, and dining groups, and it mentions free parking too.

We arrived a bit late, so we were seated in the quiet back corner with the nice view, which let my mom and I catch up and eat without being disturbed.

Summer set vs autumn set: what's the difference?

This time I did things a little differently from last time. I picked the summer 1-person set, and my mom ordered the autumn 1-person set. Having the set composition change by season is part of the fun of Bapeul Jitda, I think. Even if it's not exactly that season, the differences are small enough that you don't need to worry about ordering the 'wrong' season.

Info on the seasonal 1-person set menus

The biggest reason I chose the summer set was the live abalone mulhoe! On a hot day, you really crave something cold like mulhoe. That day I wanted something tangy and refreshing rather than warm, so I picked the summer set without a second thought.

The summer set centers on live abalone mulhoe, served alongside Caesar salad, sous-vide cold pork, gosiraegi with laver, eggplant fritters, deodeok skewers, and beef brisket mushroom hot pot — a full spread where you get to try a lot of different things at once. I like variety over a single dish, so this format suited me well.

Mom wanted sotbap (hot pot rice), but ended up with the autumn set

My mom ordered the autumn 1-person set. But she hadn't actually meant to order the autumn set from the start — she'd wanted the menu with sotbap. She'd worked a morning shift in Gumi and came by train, so we arrived around 1pm... The staff had told us that if we pre-select the menu when booking, they'll prepare it on time, so I checked the menu on Naver and ordered, and my mom must have gotten confused. She only realized it wasn't sotbap but abalone porridge once the food arrived 😭

At first she said, 'Huh? I meant to order sotbap, I ordered wrong,' but after tasting it she said it was better than she expected.

The autumn 1-person set also comes with Caesar salad, sous-vide cold pork, gosiraegi with laver, eggplant fritters, deodeok skewers, beef brisket mushroom hot pot, steamed live abalone, live abalone porridge, and doenjang stew. The difference between the summer and autumn sets is the main dish: summer is live abalone mulhoe and mini abalone porridge, while autumn is a full bowl of abalone porridge and doenjang stew.

A neat spread, dish by dish

One of the nice things about a hanjeongsik restaurant is that you're not just getting one main dish — you get to try a little of many things.

Neat hanjeongsik dishes served one by one

That day too, the table filled up fast as dishes arrived one by one.

We started light with the salad, then tried the sous-vide cold pork — the tender meat with its side pairings didn't feel heavy at all. The gosiraegi and laver were good to eat together too.

The eggplant fritters were crispy outside and soft inside — personally, this was the dish I kept reaching for.

A fragrant dish like deodeok skewers would be missed if it weren't part of a hanjeongsik spread, and eaten alongside rice it worked really well as a side.

Steamed live abalone included in the set

Midway through, the warm beef brisket mushroom hot pot arrived, so I got to alternate between cold mulhoe and hot soup, which was fun. Adding the steamed live abalone meant I got to enjoy abalone prepared several different ways.

My pick, the summer set's live abalone mulhoe

And the dish I was most looking forward to — live abalone mulhoe! On a hot day, this is really the best. The cold broth with abalone in it was refreshing from the first bite. The abalone had a nice crunchy texture that went great with the mulhoe.

Bapeul Jitda says the live abalone mulhoe is made with fresh live abalone and a special broth. If you're like me and love something cool in summer, the summer 1-person set will suit you well. And since it's a full spread, you get to enjoy more than just the mulhoe — that's another plus.

Warm mini abalone porridge served with the summer set

Getting to enjoy the warm mini abalone porridge that came alongside it too made the meal feel satisfying and complete.

The autumn set's abalone porridge was a hit too

My mom had originally planned to order sotbap, but in the end the autumn set wasn't bad at all.

Especially with the live abalone porridge served at the end, she said it was better than expected. It was soft and savory, a nice way to finish the meal, and it made me think that when eating with parents, having one dish that's not too spicy or heavy is a good thing.

The potato ball from the Naver receipt review event

This visit, I also took part in the Naver receipt review event. Writing a receipt review gets you a chewy egg-cheese potato ball.

My mom and I each tried one, and it was better than expected too. Crispy outside, chewy inside, with the combo of egg, cheese, and potato — it worked well as a little snack.

What I liked most was the sauce that came with it — it had a cheongyang chili mayo kind of flavor. Slightly savory and spicy, it went really well with the potato ball, and both my mom and I agreed it was tasty. It's the kind of light side snack you'd enjoy after a meal, so don't forget to take part in the receipt review event.

After the meal, we also grabbed some drip coffee and a bit of dessert from the dessert zone set up near the entrance.

Looking for a place to eat with your parents in Gyeongsan

Visiting again with my mom this time, I was reminded that this really is a good place to eat with parents. Since the menu is mostly Korean food, it's easy on older folks, and I liked that the set composition changes by season, so you can try something different every visit.

If you're craving something cool like me, go for the summer set; if warm, soft abalone porridge sounds good, go for the autumn set. And since each person can order a different seasonal set, it also works fine when the people you're with want different things.

For anyone in Gyeongsan looking for a place to eat with parents, host a family meal, or find a quiet, clean Korean restaurant, I think this is a solid option.

I'd already been once before, but coming back with my mom this time made me think, 'I could definitely come back here again.' Gyeongsan's Bapeul Jitda, a repeat visit! Next time, I'll make sure my mom actually gets to order the sotbap she originally wanted. :)
