Nampo, a pub in Gyodong, Daegu — the best spot for the freshest raw shrimp sashimi

Today I came for the dish that's all the rage lately — raw shrimp sashimi. Since it's such a hot menu item, I headed to Gyodong, the hottest neighborhood in Daegu. Of all the places there, this one had the freshest-looking raw shrimp, so here's my review of Nampo, a pub in Gyodong.
Nampo's hours
- Sun-Mon 18:00-02:00 (next day)
- Fri, Sat 17:00-03:00 (next day)

Nampo is a famous clam grilling spot in Gyodong, but their raw shrimp is also amazing.

Fresh seafood comes in every morning here. The raw shrimp sold is also from that same day! The freshness really stands out, and I'll show you why below.

Outdoor tent or indoor — where to sit
The weather right now is perfect, so the outdoor tent seating is open. Eating clams or raw shrimp outside with a drink is just perfect.

Here's the indoor space. The indoor seating is spacious too, so you can enjoy it comfortably — this would be a great spot for group gatherings in Daegu.

A three-line poem made from the reservation name
We visited after making a reservation, and they made us a little three-line poem using the name on our reservation. It was a small thing, but such a cute, funny little event ^.^
You can reserve both indoor and outdoor tables through Naver Reservation, so I'd recommend booking ahead before you visit.

The menu and the price of raw shrimp sashimi
Here's the menu. The main seafood dishes are clam grilling, raw shrimp, and grilled shrimp, and there are lots of side dishes too. It's the perfect place for seafood with drinks! We ordered the raw shrimp sashimi. Price: ₩55,000.

Complimentary clam soup and knife-cut noodles
After we ordered and waited a bit, they brought out a basket full of ingredients.

You put it in broth and boil it into clam soup — and this is all complimentary!!
They boiled everything together except the noodles. The noodles were served like a dessert once we'd finished the rest of the food. If the broth runs low, you can ask for more and they'll top it up~

And the complimentary side dishes: corn salad and pork cutlet. The basic menu here really hits the spot for a simple palate — I loved it, haha.

Raw shrimp sashimi flipping on the ice
And here comes the main dish. They served the raw shrimp over cold ice, along with wasabi, lemon, hot sauce, and even buldak mayo (spicy chicken mayo sauce)~
The shrimp were so fresh that they kept flipping around. I totally recommend this for anyone looking for truly fresh raw shrimp sashimi!! You cut off the head with scissors and eat the body — and if you ask, they'll fry up the shrimp heads for you.

The shrimp were so plump. The meat was firm and bouncy, with the best chewy texture. I liked dipping it in the buldak mayo sauce best — the spiciness was so good~

Okinawa draft beer
While eating, we ordered a draft beer~ They had this Okinawa draft beer I'd never seen before, so I ordered it. It went down smooth — I recommend it!

Fried shrimp heads
I also tried the fried shrimp heads. They come with tartar sauce, and they were crispy and savory — perfect as a beer snack. There was surprisingly a lot of meat inside the shrimp heads too, so it was crispy on the outside but you could still feel the soft shrimp meat inside.

Finishing with ice cream
There was an ice cream machine near the entrance, and if you ask a staff member, they'll bring it over for you. The staff member had real skill — even in a small paper cup the size of a soju glass, they piled the ice cream up high so the portion was generous. Ending with cool ice cream made for the perfect finish!
That was Nampo, the raw shrimp sashimi spot at a pub in Gyodong, Daegu.
