Menu and prices
Donggok Jemyeon's menu is varied. Beyond kalguksu, there's seafood chive pancake, yukgaejang kalguksu, extra-concentrated chicken kalguksu, chicken muchim (spicy mixed chicken), pork jowl suyuk (boiled pork), white bean kalguksu, and hanwoo bone-broth kalguksu, among others. Prices are very reasonable too. A bowl of kalguksu starts from ₩10,000-something, and the seafood chive pancake set is ₩36,000, a good price for two to share. Being able to enjoy such delicious, generous food at this price — I think the value for money is really good.

Seafood chive pancake set — the kids' favorite
The seafood chive pancake set at Donggok Jemyeon, a Korean restaurant in Gyodong, Dongseong-ro, Daegu, is really delicious. Fresh seafood and chives come together in a pancake fried crisp, melting in your mouth. The side dishes served with the pancake are tasty too, and even better eaten with rice.

You can really taste the freshness of the seafood, so I'd strongly recommend it to anyone who loves seafood. There was so much shrimp and squid packed in that the kids loved it.

Extra-concentrated chicken kalguksu, thin noodle or regular
The extra-concentrated chicken kalguksu has a rich broth that's just excellent. The self-made noodles, in particular, are chewy and springy.

The tender chicken and chewy noodles come together perfectly — one bowl and you feel full and satisfied. I liked being able to choose between thin noodle and regular noodle. The broth is clean yet deep in flavor, the kind of taste that makes you want to keep eating.

How spicy is the yukgaejang kalguksu?
The yukgaejang kalguksu comes with a spicy broth and all kinds of ingredients.

There's plenty of meat and vegetables in it, and one bite gives you a satisfying, refreshing kick. I'd especially recommend it to anyone who likes bold, spicy food.
The staff were really kind. They helped carefully when ordering and took care of anything we needed right away, so we could enjoy the meal in a good mood.
