Daegu restaurant with high chairs and free parking: Geumdeungeo
In short
Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch (금등어 들안길 본점) is a wood-fired mackerel restaurant on Deulan-ro in Suseong, Daegu. Ordering three wood-fired grilled mackerel, one flame-grilled spicy pork stir-fry and a kids' meal, the mackerel was moist inside and the pork was only about as spicy as Shin Ramyun, so a family with a young child had no trouble. With high chairs, 90 minutes of free parking and room-style group seating, Geumdeungeo is a solid choice for a family meal out.

Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch Mon–Sat 11:00 - 21:20 Sunday 11:00 - 20:40 (Closed Sept 24, 25 for Chuseok holiday) 🚗Parking available

Today I'm introducing 'Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch,' famous as a great spot in Suseong's Deulanguil for eating out with your kid.
Parking and how to find Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch

There's a parking lot inside the Geumdeungeo building, and tower parking is available if spots run out. ❣️ Just so you know, the first 90 minutes are free.

You can take the elevator connected to the parking lot straight up to the 2nd floor, super convenient.
Room-style group seating and the dining room

The green trees visible through the window made the space feel cozy and lively 🫶 There's also room-style group seating, so it's good for family gatherings or group meetups.
Geumdeungeo's menu and the one-dish-per-person rule

Geumdeungeo's signature dishes are the wood-fired grilled mackerel and the pork stir-fry, and since it's one dish per person, we ordered three wood-fired mackerel, one pork stir-fry, and one kids' menu 🫶
Banchan and the geundae (chard) doenjang soup

The banchan (side dishes) laid out were varied: black sesame lotus root salad, seasoned fish roe, marinated long broccoli, European-style salad, green onion kimchi, seokbakji (radish kimchi), gijang seaweed with anchovy sauce, doraji (bellflower root) in gochujang, japchae, and gim (seaweed) to pair with everything.

Wrapped in gim, the seasoned fish roe had an incredible savory depth, and the European-style salad's herb oriental sauce was so good I wanted to toss in pasta and make a pasta salad out of it ❤️

The geundae (chard) doenjang soup that came with it was also amazing!! Once it boils up hard, turn the heat down to level 3, wait 3 minutes, then turn it off and eat.
The savoriness of the shrimp blended with the doenjang, and the nutty, soft chard tied it all together — really delicious.
Nuruk-salt cured wood-fired mackerel my child ate right up

Geumdeungeo's signature dish, the nuruk-salt cured wood-fired mackerel ❤️ They say the nuruk salt is made using 100% natural sea salt from New Zealand's clean waters, free of the harmful bittern found in other salts.

Grilled over a wood fire, the fish is crispy outside and moist inside.
Can you see how ridiculously moist it is 😍 The flesh pulled apart softly and the mackerel just melted in my mouth 💕
My kid eats it fine on its own, but wrapping the mackerel and rice in gim made her eat it especially well 👍🏻

How spicy is the flame-grilled pork? About like Shin Ramyun
Spicy-sweet, deeply seasoned, with a fiery charred flavor — the grilled pork stir-fry really had that smoky wok flavor baked in 👍🏻
They said it's about Shin Ramyun-level spicy, and even as someone who can't handle much heat, I could enjoy it just fine — total rice thief. It was spicy-sweet without being harsh! Not telling you I had two bowls of rice haha.
What made Geumdeungeo easy with a child
- If you run low on banchan, you can easily grab more yourself
- Plenty of baby chairs, and small plates kept under the table made moving around easy
- A simple barley cracker snack for dessert

There's also apricot juice, americano, and milk coffee, so you can pick whatever suits your taste.

There are also takeaway ice cups, great for taking a drink with you after your meal 😊 I tried it and the coffee tasted deep and clean, like they use good beans.
Banchan and wood-fired mackerel sold for takeout

The banchan we enjoyed during the meal are also sold to take home. The wood-fired mackerel is available for purchase too, so it seems great for an easy meal at home ❣️

They're currently running a customer satisfaction survey, so I took part too haha. Hope I'm one of the 5 winners. This confirms 'Geumdeungeo' Deulanguil as a top spot, with awards including the Consumer Preferred Brand Award and the Korea Food Service Management Award 👍🏻
