Clearly thanks to the fast table turnover, all the banchan felt fresh — moist, not dried out, and crisp. Looking around, plenty of office workers were there too, since a filling meal comes together quickly during the weekday lunch rush.
What does the wood-fired mackerel taste like?
The wood-fired grilled mackerel is a thick, plump fillet aged in yeast salt before grilling. It was soft with no fishy taste, and wrapped with gonjari gim (seasoned laver) and cockles, the outside was crisp while the inside stayed moist.

Fresh, plump mackerel. The salt used for the yeast-salt aging is apparently only natural sun-dried salt from New Zealand's pristine waters. That gives it a natural savoriness and deep mackerel flavor, without any fishiness — soft and mellow.

Mild gonjari gim with savory mackerel, and paired with the cockles too, the outside stayed crisp while the inside stayed moist. Rich aroma and flavor, with a mouthful of varied textures.
Seasoned cockles and spicy stir-fried pork at Geumdeungeo
The cockle salad at Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch was cleanly degritted and neatly trimmed, tangy-sweet and chewy. The spicy pork stir-fry had a special sauce with no gamey smell, spicy heat, and perilla leaves alongside — a total rice-thief.

Tangy-sweet, fresh cockles, chewy and cleanly degritted, neatly trimmed — paired with cool cucumber for a refreshing finish. A flavor that never gets old, addictive enough that despite being a side dish, your hand keeps reaching back for more.

And the spicy pork made with the special sauce, no gamey smell, with fragrant perilla leaves alongside — an absolute rice-thief.
Mackerel, cockle salad, and spicy pork stir-fry is an unusual combination, but it comes together surprisingly well as a full, satisfying spread. Rich flavors and generous portions, all evenly covered — that's Geumdeungeo, a Deulanguil favorite in Daegu.
