Suseong Daegu Japanese restaurant solo meal: Ongijeong salmon bowl
In short
Ongijeong Suseong Lake Branch is a Japanese restaurant in Suseong, Daegu, serving rice bowls and tempura. I ordered the Steak & Raw Salmon Rice Bowl Tempura Set for 20,000 won and had a filling solo lunch with tender salmon, steak, and crisp tempura. A great stop before a walk around Suseong Lake.

A Japanese Restaurant Near Suseong Lake for a Solo Meal
I had an errand near Suseong Lake by myself recently, and while wondering what to have for lunch, I ended up at Ongijeong! There are so many good places around Suseong Lake that choosing was hard, but since I was eating alone that day, I looked for somewhere that would feel easygoing yet still give me a satisfying meal.

There was plenty of parking space right in front of the restaurant, so it was convenient to visit by car too! Parking can quietly become a concern at restaurants near Suseong Lake, but I loved being able to park directly in front here :) If you're driving over, I don't think you'll need to worry too much about parking!

A Comfortable Setting for Solo Diners, Families, and Couples
Once inside, I found the restaurant more spacious than expected, with a clean atmosphere! It had an overall warm, cozy feel, and the tables were spaced nicely, so I didn't feel awkward coming in alone. Everything was neatly arranged, making it a comfortable place to eat; it felt suitable not only for solo dining but also for families or couples.

Ordering the Steak & Raw Salmon Rice Bowl Tempura Set
Each table had a tablet for ordering, so I could browse the menu and order comfortably from my seat! After looking over the choices for a while, I ordered the Steak & Raw Salmon Rice Bowl Tempura Set that day 🤤
The Steak & Raw Salmon Rice Bowl Tempura Set costs ₩20,000. It lets you have steak and raw salmon at once, with tempura included too, so it looked like a pretty filling choice even for a solo meal!

Receipt Photo Review Event
And one more thing! They were also running a Naver receipt photo review event. If you write a receipt review, you can receive either a soft drink or two shrimp tempura pieces! I'm the kind of person who somehow always ends up joining these review events, haha, so keep it in mind if you visit 🤭

Salmon, Steak, and Tempura All at Once
My order arrived! It looks pretty generous from the start, right?! The bowl came topped with both steak and raw salmon, with crispy tempura on the side, so it felt like a full spread, haha. It looked plenty filling for a solo meal, and since I was hungry, I dug in as soon as it arrived.

More than anything, I loved getting salmon and steak together! I usually like both salmon and steak, and having them in one bowl meant I could enjoy more variety than with just one menu item. I had a piece of salmon, then a piece of steak, alternating between them, and I never got tired of it.

Tender Raw Salmon with Wasabi
I picked up a piece of salmon that looked tender even at a glance, and it had a soft, melting texture along with salmon's clean, rich flavor—it was delicious! Adding just a little wasabi cut through the richness, so it tasted even cleaner.

Crisp Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura
I also tried the tempura that came with it, one piece at a time! The outside was fried nice and crisp, while the ingredients inside each had different textures, which made choosing fun. The shrimp tempura in particular had plump shrimp inside, with a springy yet moist bite, and paired with the crispy coating, well—fried shrimp is just never bad. The vegetable tempura had ingredients that felt crisp or soft in different ways, making for a lighter flavor that was different from the shrimp. The steak and salmon were mostly soft in texture, so having pieces of tempura in between added crunch and made the whole set feel much more varied :)

If you're craving a neat, satisfying meal, I think Ongijeong Suseong Lake Branch would be worth a visit! Next time, I think I'll come back to try another rice bowl or a tendon (tempura rice bowl). After a delicious meal, a lap around Suseong Lake for a walk sounds like the perfect plan 💛
