After constantly hunting down great places to eat in Jung-gu, Daegu, while looking for somewhere I could confidently declare, “This is the real taste of Daegu!” I decided to visit Banwoldang Bujasikdang (반월당부자식당), a place I had only heard about through word of mouth.
When you think of Daegu, spicy, addictive seasoning is famous, right? If you are looking for a neat, generous Korean meal near Banwoldang, this is absolutely a place I would pick!

Weekend evening atmosphere and what I ordered at Banwoldang Bujasikdang
It was a weekend evening, so the place was packed all the way to the back with diners! Turnover is very quick, though, so I did not have to wait long before getting a table.
- Hot-plate flame-grilled O.JE stir-fry for two: an unreal squid-and-pork pairing!
- Two bowls of rice: nutty black rice

Side dishes and self-serve wrap vegetables
Every side dish that came with the table setting was fresh and crisp! The seasoned shredded radish, seasoned bean sprouts, and pickled onions all went so well with the seasoning.
Because ingredients move quickly at this busy restaurant, the lettuce and peppers at the self-serve bar were incredibly fresh too—perfect for making wraps!

The smoky flavor of the hot-plate flame-grilled O.JE stir-fry
Finally, today’s much-anticipated hot-plate flame-grilled O.JE stir-fry arrived!
The spicy-sweet flame-grilled pork was loaded with springy squid, giving it such a wonderful variety of textures. It was even prettily topped with white enoki mushrooms, making my mouth water before I had even taken a bite.
Since it arrives on a sizzling stone plate, it stays warm and smoky right down to the very last piece 🔥 The hearty countryside-style doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew) and nutty bowl of black rice made my appetite come alive 🍚

Squid and pork in lettuce wraps
I piled thick pieces of pork and chewy squid onto fresh lettuce, wrapped up a big bite, and the chewiness and spicy smoky flavor filled my mouth!
Wow, the squid-and-pork combination is seriously insane!
A friend visiting from Seoul started devouring it the moment they had a bite, and as the person treating them, I was completely delighted 👏
