Suyeong Naengsam Daegu Direct Store: frozen pork belly for 7,900 won near Dongseong-ro

If you want to eat proper naengsam (frozen pork belly) in Daegu, head to Suyeong Naengsam Daegu Direct Store 🥩 Now that the weather's cooling off, eating meat in a spot like this just tastes even better.

Naengsam in Dongseong-ro for ₩7,900 a serving?! The price alone made this a place I really wanted to recommend. It's not just the meat that's cheap either — you also get homemade green onion kimchi, potatoes and mushrooms to grill alongside it, so the value for money was pretty solid.

Folding doors open: the patio atmosphere at Suyeong Naengsam

On nice days, Suyeong Naengsam Daegu Direct Store throws its full folding doors wide open, giving you that open-air, outdoor-eating feel even indoors.

Grilling naengsam in the evening with the doors flung open and that lively, buzzing atmosphere really made it feel like eating outdoors — I loved it even more for that.

The real highlight: Suyeong Naengsam's homemade green onion kimchi

The real kicker here, for me, was the homemade green onion kimchi! Wrap a piece of meat with it and you get this spicy, tangy kick that goes so well with the naengsam.

What is on the self-serve bar?

There's also a self-serve bar on one side where you can grab whatever sides or extras you want yourself.

You don't have to keep flagging down staff every time you run low, and you can take as much as you want — no need to feel awkward about it, which I really liked :)

Frozen pork belly vs pork cheek meat: how the textures differ

In-store signage explaining the quick-freeze aging process

This place also pays real attention to the meat itself. They say they use young female pigs under 6 months old, age the meat, then quick-freeze it before serving.

What I ordered that day was frozen pork belly plus pork cheek meat. The frozen pork belly comes thinly sliced, and it was my first time trying the frozen cheek meat — it had a totally different charm from the pork belly I usually eat. Grilled golden brown on the pan, the chewy texture was better than I expected.

It cooks fast on the grill, and once it's golden and crispy, the crunchy, savory flavor really comes through!

That thin, characteristic naengsam texture combined with the clean, savory taste of the meat itself kept me reaching for more haha. The chewiness was better than I expected. The more you chew, the more savory it gets, and it's never too tough, so my chopsticks kept going back for more. The texture was completely different from the thin, crispy frozen pork belly, so I was glad I ordered both.

And then the pork cheek meat I ordered alongside it. It has a chewy, springy texture and a savory flavor quite different from the pork belly, so switching between the two kept things from getting repetitive.

Is Suyeong Naengsam good value at 7,900 won?

Given how high dining-out prices are these days, this place felt relatively easy on the wallet, so the value for money was great.

If you've been wanting naengsam but hesitating over the price, or if you like trying a few different cuts, this could be a good pick!

On nice days especially, I'd recommend throwing the folding doors open and enjoying naengsam in that outdoor-drinking-spot mood 🤍 Wrap it with some green onion kimchi on top and the chewy cheek meat plus the tangy kimchi is just so good!

Grilling the potatoes and mushrooms alongside the meat made for a really good pairing too 🤍 If you're looking for a great-value naengsam spot in Daegu, give Suyeong Naengsam Daegu Direct Store a try :)

Bibim guksu ordered to finish the meal

Finishing the meal with bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles)

After the meat, I finished up by ordering bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles) too. The chewy noodles paired nicely with the sweet-and-tangy sauce, making them a great thing to eat in between bites of meat.

It's especially good when you put a piece of naengsam on top and eat it together with the noodles — that combo was really solid. The savory meat plus the tangy noodles cleans up your palate perfectly!

If you find eating just meat gets a bit much after a while, I'd recommend ordering a bibim guksu alongside it too :)
